Cannot open ANY link in the iOS app

I share many images and files on OneDrive with my family members.

We all use iPhones.

We used to send the links of files stored on OneDrive to each other by WhatsApp or email  for viewing.

Until recently we were able to just click on the links and open the iOS OneDrive app for direct viewing.

But now we ALL have the same problem: Clicking on the link would only open the app, load for a while and then get stuck at the Shared tab without opening the file itself.

All of my family members use iPhone.

We have confirmed this problem occurs on iPhone 11 Pro, X, 7, 6s, 5s.

I have reported from within the app but there was no update at all.

OneDrive sharing is basically unusable on ALL of our iOS devices.

How could this serious bug get unnoticed and not fixed?

Anyone just grab an iPhone and try it yourself??

Hi エロ P,

Sorry to hear that.

I will do some tests on my side, and I will reply to you once I finished my tests.

Best Regards,
Hugo

Hi エロ P,

We feel sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue. During my testing, I can reproduce this issue as you, and I would like to share my test results:

Scenario1. If this is a shared Office file and the corresponding Office App has been installed on the iPhone. Directly click the link and the Office file will be opened by the corresponding Office App.

Scenario2. If this is a shared Office file but the corresponding Office App hasn't been installed on the iPhone, or this is a picture. OneDrive opens and loadings for a while, but stops at a blank screen in the shared tab.

If you are experiencing Scenario2, or you have installed Office Apps but the shared Office file cannot be opened directly via the corresponding Office App, as a workaround, after receiving the shared link in the default Email App on the iPhone, you can press and hold on the link to decide to Open in Safari, or Copy link and paste the link to the address bar in a browser to open it.

Sorry again for the trouble, we can confirm there have some problems in the current version of the OneDrive App and we can understand your feelings, but we indeed have limit resources to report this issue to the related team. Feedback in App is the best way to directly arouse the attention of the related develop team, we sincerely appreciate your feedback and patience.

Best Regards,

Hugo

Hi エロ P,

Really sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue. Today I did a test on another iPhone with a previous version of OneDrive App and does not find this issue, but the issue occurs once I update OneDrive to the latest 11.13.5 version. Therefore, we consider that the issue may be related to the updates of OneDrive, and now I would like to make a summary of this issue for your reference, this may also benefit other community members if he/she is experiencing the same issue.

Issue Summary:

After opening the shared link of OneDrive files, the OneDrive App opens but eventually stop at the Shared tab without opening the file.

Issue Environment:

The issue is occurring to the latest version (11.13.5) of OneDrive App on iPhone.

Issue Scenarios and Suggestions:

OneDrive opens and loads for a while, but stops without any changes on the Shared tab.

If you are experiencing Scenario2, or you have installed Office Apps, but the shared Office file cannot be opened directly via the corresponding Office App, I would like to give you some suggestions as below:

1. Install the corresponding Office Apps. If you got any troubles during Installing Office Apps on the iPhone, just post back and we are glad to help.

2. After receiving the shared link in the default Email App on the iPhone, you can press and hold on the link to decide to Open in Safari, or Copy link and paste the link to the address bar in a browser to open it.

I can understand your feelings and apologize for my delayed reply as I don’t always have available resources to keep testing on the problem. I know these are just workarounds and we sincerely appreciate your feedback on this issue, but these suggestions should help before the final fix of this issue. Hoping the issue will be solved as soon as possible and hoping the provided suggestions can work for you.

Best Regards,

Hugo

Hugo,

That is right but you dont need a test expert to discover this bug. Just playing with the app will find it. How could Microsoft not discover it??

Now please fix it ASAP!

Hi エロ P,

Thanks for the prompt via clicking the Mark as answer option and sorry for my late reply due to the weekends. But I know this issue should have caused great effects for you and the unsatisfied reply deserve not to be the answer.

Please accept my explanation that I am always using Android phones and seldom use the Office Apps on an IOS device. Normally the Office suite will be equipped in the IOS devices for our testing, and we prefer to download and direct send pictures during chatting. Maybe other users have similar habits as well, or they may have neglected this issue and are using other workarounds, we haven't noticed this issue until you post this question. We sincerely appreciate your reports via the feedback, and we believe the related team will investigate it as soon as possible once they get the reports.

I can understand your feelings and also consider it is unacceptable to get a blank screen after the long-time loading. But what I can do is do more tests and try to find as many workarounds as possible, so that this issue won't affect you and other users too much before the fix.

Sorry again for the inconvenience caused by this issue, and thanks again for your feedback.

Hoping this issue will be fixed as soon as possible.

Best Regards,
Hugo
