Not getting a digital signal to my soundbar from XB1.

I have my cable box (Samsung TWC Box) running HDMI out into my XB1.   I have HDMI ran from there to my TV (Vizio M601D-A3R).   I have optical ran from my TV to my soundbar (Vizio S4251W-B4).   I had no problem passing digital sound to my soundbar before from my BR player and cable box.   Now, I'm not getting digital from my cable box, nor the xbox as far as I can tell.

When my video was set to auto-select, it would not allow me to enable the 5.1 uncompressed.   When I set it to HDMI manually, I can select 5.1 uncompressed.   Either way, I'm not getting a digital signal.   Any ideas on if XB1 can support this, or if it's a settings issue?

Hilarious GT by the way. I would recommend running S/PDIF for 5.1 or 7.1 to make sure the surround sound works well for you. I always recommend running as few pass-throughs as possible for a myriad of reasons. Let me know how that works for you.

-Cheers

It would not allow you to select 5.1 uncompressed when set to auto because your TV does not support 5.1 uncompressed, which the TV reported during the HDMI handshake (generally, uncompressed 5.1 would require a receiver). Even if your TV did support uncompressed 5.1, that can't be sent over optical anyway--only compressed 5.1 (i.e. Dolby Digital or DTS) can be. The Xbox One does not currently output Dolby Digital. It does apparently output DTS, but your TV won't pass DTS over optical from what I can find (most won't pass 5.1 at all but looks like yours will do DD). As suggested, you can try running optical directly from your Xbox One to your soundbar with the One set to output DTS.

Unfortunately optical is not an option for me.   My TV is about 20ft away from my media closet and that would entail running optical through attic/walls etc.   Plus, my soundbar will not decode DTS, only DD.   Am I just out of luck?   Are there any plans for it MS to update the audio outs on this?   It's really disappointing, I have an unusual HT setup and if I could get my audio straight on this, it would be perfect.

The Xbox One does supports Dolby Digital (5.1 and 7.1) so that is no problem. As being a huge fan of S/PDIF I would recommend running sound that way anyway (that is just me). There is a beta of HDMI supported surround sound already going now. However, we are looking into this in the long-term. I hope this helps. -Cheers

That is not correct or is at least misleading. While the One will decode Dolby Digital (i.e. from the HDMI source), it certainly will not currently output Dolby Digital for games, TV, etc. It is 5.1/7.1 uncompressed or DTS for now.

I have the same sound bar. If you hook the sound bar up straight to the xbox one with a digital optical audio cable and not your tv the DTS on the sound bar will work.  Works with games, blu-rays and my comcast cable hd channels that support 5.1. The DTS light on the vizio sound bar Wil light up when you turn on it on and when you change input on the sound bar and shortly turn off indicting it's working. These are my settings, HDMI audio off. Optical audio DTS Digital Surround. And under tv & one guide settings, click troublshooting, I have surround sound (beta) checked. Only thing I don't know if DTS or Dolby digital is better.  With the march update I will have the option to choose DTS or Dolby digital that the vizio 5.1 sound bar does support.
