Minecraft "You are almost out of storage space! Minecraft has restricted..." error

When trying to start Minecraft I receive "You are almost out of data storage space! Minecraft has restricted ask access to this feature until you clear up additional storage space." I'm only using about 12% of my data storage on my Xbox. I've been getting this error since I've set up my Xbox and to play Minecraft when I was only using less than 1% of my storage.

I got it to stop after completely removing my account from the Xbox and then re-establishing it, this was to troubleshoot a separate login issue i was having.  However, now it's back and I don't want to keep having to remove my profile every month to fix it. Every thread I've seen on this topic does not have an answer, and then gets locked when someone else comments on it.

I've done all the resets that other threads recommend and my internet speed is fine on every device in my house.

Hi there Ptownkila

Are you using a external hard drive? have you tried removing different games to see if that will reslove the issue you coming across? It might be down to where you are storing the game this is why am asking.

Hey AngelObullets,

Thanks for the reply. I did have external storage hooked up, but I pulled it when I reset it to troubleshoot. Checked the storage and it's on the internal.

I haven't tried pulling any other games off, I only have two others on it. I'll try though.

OK your games on the internal side might be full reconnect the external and go to settings storage and select the external as main storage source instead.

Ok, going to find a hard drive I can reformat. I was using the other one for media.

And, just curious, what do you mean by the games might be full? Do the games each have storage limits independent from the internal drive?

Reformated the external, switched minecraft over to it, and set it as my default. No luck. The world's I have only take up about 15 MB of space (total) so I kinda figured that was a long shot.

Odd. What space is free on your internal hard?. You might have to try removing some other games and trying again.

I'm only using like 12% of the space on the internal, I have 686 GBs free. There are only two other games on the xbox, but I'll try it. Again, think it's a long shot.

It was doing this when minecraft was the only thing on it. Trying to play minecraft was the first thing i did when I set it up and i got this error. People have been posting about it for like six months.

Yeah this is very odd, It is down to this one game that is giving you the error, You have tried reinstalling the game and made sure it saying install on both internal and external. Is there any other error code appears when you try to install the game?.

Uninstalled and reinstalled again to make sure. No errors. On both internal and external. Still doing it.

Hey there ptownkila,

Thanks for coming to us for support on this storage issue.

I can understand how this could be concerning especially if you put a lot of time into Minecraft. Seeing as you have already done a good amount of troubleshooting to no avail, I would at this time suggest trying a soft reset of the console. It's a reset of your console to factory defaults without uninstalling anything. When you get a chance, try doing one as outlined in How to reset your console to factory defaults on Xbox One.

Just make sure that before you do so, you have the sign in info for any important gamertags (during the reset they'll be removed and you'll have to redownload them later) and that you have easy access to your internet.

Hope this helps out.

Let us know!

Thanks for reading!
