Windows 10 Installation Error - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017

When upgrading to Windows 10 I always get the same error message. I get to the point where the system restarts and the windows 10 logo shows but no spinning icon appears. When I force shut down my laptop and then turn it back on again I get this error message:

'0xC1900101 - 0x20017 Installation failed during safe OS phase with an error during boot operation'

I remember trying to install the Windows 10 Insider Preview earlier this year and got exactly the same problem. I've also tried creating a bootable USB using the new Media Creation Tool but the same problem persists. No matter how I install Windows 10 I always have the same problem.

Specifications:

Samsung S3511 Laptop

Windows 7 (64 bit)

Intel Pentium P6200 2.13GHz

4.00 GB RAM

500GB Hard drive

Try here, it worked for me and got the GWX icon back. I'm on Win7 and followed "Resolution Step 2" and then did a reboot and the icon were back in my taskbar.

And when none of that works, and the same hang occurs simply booting from the iso, how do we communicate diagnostic information to MS so they can fix this?  Although I'm upgrading my laptop from Win7(updated as required), I can plug in a spare disk and do a clean install of win8.1 with no issues.  Clean install of win10 reads the cd and goes into a processor loop.  There are reports of the same problem with win8, so whatever MS did to fix it there needs to be done to win10.

Have the same problem on an MSI GE70. Starting to see threads where people who moved their OS to an SSD and it is not the original "Device 0" where the OS was installed is the issue. But moving back to my spinning drive would really really suck.

Tried the advice posted here that was applicable. Nothing worked. After 3 or so hours, I reinstalled 8.1 to a new disk, updated to 10 OK and saw that 10 was activated. Then I copied  the 10 install ISO to a gpt partioned USB stick using iso2disk. Booted from the USB in UEFI bios, cleared all the partitions and did a clean install of 10. This created a GPT boot disk, UEFI boot, with clean install that remained activated.

i wanted a clean install of 10 from the beginning, but MS will only allow a free copy of 10 if one does an update, then a clean install.

I have the same issue on my Samsung RF710, tried several times, even with creation of ISO on USB and DVD.

Everything seems to go fine untill last reboot.

 THIS WORKED FOR ME

1. Login with your Microsoft System Account (same account you registered with for the Insider program)

2. Change the registry key using windows + R keys (run) and type regedit

Change the entries from fbl_Impressive to TH1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability

Ring = WIF

RingBackup = WIS or Enabled (if you have this key)

EnablePreviewBuilds = 2

BranchName = TH1
UserPreferredBranchName = TH1

3. Reboot your pc

4. Login and run windows update and it should download and install TH1 Professional Windows build 10240.

If you changed the Ring key from WIS to WIF - you might need to wait one day before the update works
