Win 10 Update Assistant problems

I have a HP Pavilion Elite, Intel i5 CPU, 2.67GHz, 64-bit Operating System.  Several months ago I upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 and my PC seems to work okay.  Win 10 is set to update automatically, but it was never able to successfully install any Win 10 updates.  I consistently receive the error message "... updates fail to install".  Recently I manually ran the Win 10 Update Assistant hoping that it may resolve my problem, but that is now stuck at 99%.  I let it sat for several hours hoping that it was just slow in doing whatever its supposed to do, but it hasn't change.  Below is a sample image of what is shown on my computer screen.

I've been searching the internet for days, hoping to find a solution, but to no avail.  I would appreciate any help from someone to help me resolve this problem.

Thanks.

Hi,

We suggest running the Windows Update Troubleshooter to automatically fix any known issues that might be causing Windows update not to be installed on your device. Please click here to run the troubleshooter.

Thanks for your quick response.  I ran the Troubleshooter, but at the end of the process it displayed the following:

I also tried the 'Explore additional options', but that refers me back to you - Windows Communities.

I decided to run the Assistant a second time and instead of getting stuck at 99%, it displayed a different message with an error code.  Please see below:

To close the Assistant, the only way I could do that was using Task Manager.  Inside the Task Manager I noticed the file was named 'Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant (32 bit).  Would that be a problem since my PC is a 64 bit OS?   ... Just asking.

I searched the Microsoft site but couldn't find a 64 bit version.

Thanks again for all your help.

Unfortunately I am not making much progress with the latest set of instructions you sent.  In attempting Method 1, I had to do a reboot and the PC failed to restart!  I managed to recover in Safe Mode.  I am currently attempting Method 2.  I will update you with the results when I have completed Method 2.

Thanks.
