Stop error code when installing Windows 10 Creators Update on device with AMD Carrizo A10-8700P CPU

(Updated 7/18/17):

If you try to update a Windows 10 device with an AMD Carrizo A10-8700P CPU to the Creators Update, you might see one of the following Stop error codes:

  • 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 (The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation).
  • SYSTEM PTE MISUSE

Windows will then revert to your previous version of Windows 10 rather than install the Creators Update.

BIOS updates are now available for HP Pavilion Notebooks that are experiencing this issue.  Please visit your hardware manufacturer’s website and make sure you’ve installed the latest BIOS update to successfully upgrade Windows to the Creators Update.
