Web Credentials (and other Edge stuff) not synced across Windows 10 machines

I've always had sync problems across devices with Windows 8, 8.1 and now 10. Most annoying one is not syncing of Web Credentials, but reading list and sometimes favorites happens too.

Let's center in last Windows 10 version, Creators Update last build, 1703 (15063.13). This happened with previous versions, but now I have all my devices with this last one. This is the last official Creators Update, updated by Today. And is not in any insider program (please, moderators, don't move this post to the insider forums because is not a question about any insider version. This happens to me since Windows 8).

Currently I have:

*Generic PC, i7 with 16GB of RAM, updated from Anniversary

*Lenovo ThinkPad W550s, updated from Anniversary

*Surface Pro 4, fresh install because update failed

*Lenovo Yoga 2 with Windows, fresh install because update failed

Once after a big update, say Anniversary, Creators and some other little updates, sync has been working for, say about 2 days. After that never worked anymore until next [big] update.

Recently I found the "Microsoft Accounts" troubleshooter and I've run in all of the machines. The common factor in all machines with this assistant is "Can't connect to the sync service". It says is my internet connection, but it is not because I'm writing this as the assistant is running and I have full internet access. Default Windows antivirus and security levels.

In this machine (the Generic PC), it says "Rootacouses found an created logs", that I don't understand what means, and "Some settings have sync turned off", that is false because all sync settings are ON. I'm almost sure they are ON.

(Please, don't redirect me to the same tutorials/pages that shows how to enable the sync options. I'm not dumb. They are enabled. In all machines. Please, please, don't. And yes, all computers are in the same account).

I really don't know what to do to resolve this. Perhaps the remote Microsoft "sync service" is down, or perhaps is down the server they assigned to me, but this is very frustrating because there isn't a easy way to find what's happening.

Hello,

This issue can be related to your devices unable to reach the Microsoft servers handling the profile synchronization service. We recommend that you update your DNS settings and see if the issue persists.

Kindly refer to this wiki article for the steps on: How to change IPv4 DNS server address to public DNS in Windows?.

Give us an update on the result and we will be glad to assist you further.

Unluckily, it didn´t worked at all (I know it is not necessary but I restarted before run the assistant):

Generic PC -> Can't connect to the sync service

Thinkpad -> Same

Surface Pro 4 -> Same

I put main Google and main OpenDNS servers as Preferred and Alternative. I'm going to left those as it seems they work fine for normal internet access.

So strange...

After changing the DNS to the public ones, I got synced the Reading List and the settings. I changed on Generic PC the color app mode to Dark and once I changed the DNS, they changed to dark in the other two devices, and the reading list got synced too, but not credentials.

Looks like it's indeed related to not having the correct DNS settings to connect to the Microsoft servers handling the profile synchronization service. We recommend that you try other DNS servers and give it enough time to sync, for further troubleshooting.

We are keen on hearing back from you regarding this matter.

Yes, at about 24 hours all went synced, even passwords, and now they remains synced in a minutes/hour time. Some things are updated in more or less real-time like Reading List, that I can see how it is added in a second computer dropped edge window.

However, as a test, I returned to my old DNS (my Internet provider), do a DNS caché flush, and things are still being synced, even at work were my W10 dev machines has 3 wired network interfaces and goes to internet via a WiFi dongle.

Said that, if it works, works.

Thank you very much for your help and solution.

I'm having similar issue on corporate laptop running Windows 10 Creators Update (15063.13)

I'm logged in with my AD domain account and linked my Microsoft account.

On the Sync your Settings page everything is greyed out with a message on top "Some Windows features are only available if you  are using a Microsoft account or work account"

I ran the Microsoft account troubleshooter and also get the "Can't connect to the sync service" and "Rootcauses found and created logs".

I changed my DNS settings to the Google and main OpenDNS servers as Preferred and Alternative just like RFOG but still getting the same message displayed with all options greyed out.

Any further advice on what to try?
