Hi Yunus,

Thank you for installing Windows 10, hope you liked it.

We need few more information about the issue to assist you better.

1. Do you face this issue only with mo4 files?

2. Do you face the lag only when playing video files from VLC?

3. What is the make and model of the computer?

4. From which version of Windows was the computer upgraded to Windows 10?

We request you to try the Movies and TV app and check if you face the same issue?

sorry for the delay.

If I play mp4 movie files including mkv files, they don't work. the lag still occurs with vlc player. when i downloaded a codec, it works with media player classic home cinema. still the native windows player is not working.

my unit is hp pavilion dm1 notebook. i've upgraded from windows 8.1 where everything is doing fine. i can play videos with windows 8.1 without codecs being installed.

There are a lot of reports about Windows 10 not playing mp4 files on either:

Windows Media Player 12 or Movies and TV player

These mp4 play fine on VLC player.

The files are not corrupted and were playing fine on Windows 8.1

They stopped playing after installing Windows 10.

All the moderators and members that offer help keep on answering the same thing over and over with unsuccessful results.

Codecs should not be an issue.  WMP played mp4s fine on Windows 8.1 and should too on Windows 10.

WMP plays mp4s fine on many Windows 10 computers.

WMP doesn't play mp4s on other Windows 10 computers.

What causes the issue.

The issue is not the mp4 files.

Those having issues hear the sound but no video is displayed while playing on Movies and TV Player.

And those having issues get a codec error message in Windows Media Player.

I set up a lot of computers.  Not all have this issue.  I cannot narrow down what the problem is with the computers that do have a problem.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Can you point me to an example of a file that doesn't work? We'd like to analyze the issue. Thanks!

Any mp4 will do for testing, taken from your cell phone or any device, or any downloaded from internet sites.

Here is a link to some demo mp4 downloads:  http://www.sample-videos.com/

I looked for a link for you to have with multiple samples available you you to download.

The issue is not in the files.  I did download many different videos from the link above and not worked on Windows 10.

They work fine with VLC Player and on some of the computers that have no issues it works on any Media Player.

The issue behind why it doesn't play on so many Windows 10 computers is still a mystery.

Thank you for your help in advance.

i tested the videos in the link. every video I've downloaded and tested with mpc-hc are not working. i installed some codecs and it works except that it stutters a lot. with vlc, it's the same. it just stopped. with windows native player, it says," choose something else to play. this item is in a format we don't support"  with an error code of 0xc00d36b4. it cannot play as well with wmp. the files played are all in mp4 format. with mkv files, the error code is
0xc00d11cd (0x887a0005). i tried browsing for solutions but nothing seems to help. for now, i'm patiently using vlc as an alternative even though it plays the files with stutters and glitches. tutorials in youtube have helped a bit to improve its performance. i didn't encounter this problem back with windows 8.1. i didn't install any codecs that time.

GOM media player seems to work with all of my files tested. Sadly, there's no 64 bit support but at least all files are being played with this player compared to mpc hc or vlc.

These work on my Windows 10 system, so we must have some difference in hardware and drivers. What kind of system are you using?

Thanks!

I assume it's Intel graphics, right? Which graphics hardware and driver are on these machines? Thanks!
