If I may attempt a reply to the related question posed by Strol , I might ask if your Avast security software is set up with family protection enabled. This would depend on whether you are the sole user account on your computer  or whether you have other user accounts for other family members set up.  If you have an icon on the taskbar for said Family Protection service try right clicking it and click Activity Reports from the popup. In my case where I use McAfee a window will open.  This window should have Tabs at the top of the sub frame of the window. One of these tabs should be labelled Games & programs. Click on this tab and two lists should appear, one showing games & programs that are blocked and the other showing games & programs that are allowed.  IF HXMAIL.EXE is not in your list of allowed programs but is listed in your list of blocked programs, consult Avast about how to log in to your Family Protection Software as an administrator. After logging in, find your list of blocked programs and if HXMAIL.EXE is in the list, follow the instructions to remove it from that list. Then sign out of Family Protection as administrator.

This may improve the performance of your mail and particularly if you use web based email account(s).

Can anyone else enlighten us if this theory is correct? By the way, HXMAIL.EXE is shown as being allowed by my Family protection security but a manual search for the file gives the result that it is not found on my system.

Is it an executable that is invoked when Windows 10 Mail is started? 

The same thing described by Shadowmind occurs on my computer using Norton.  I recently changed my email client from that provided on W 10 (because it was deleting messages that I wanted to keep).  My ISP helped me install Windows Live Mail.  It works OK, but I get this message from Norton about hxmail.exe.  Can I just delete hxmail.exe?

I think my problem with wxmail.exe in my windows outlook when I had been getting the Norton Internet Security firewall message. The file insight from Norton said only 5 users had problems with it, but considers it safe. I just click to allow, in the block screen of NIS and checked remember and so far so good. No problems.

To verify no virus or malware I ran a deep scan and rootkit analysis. All check out clean.
