Microsoft Store: "Something unexpected happened" Code: 0x80070006

Just recently have been getting this error code and I'm not sure why. I've gone into command and reset, wuauserv. Reinstalled it in the registry and rebooted my computer multiple times. I've ran the built in Windows Troubleshooter tool (Which was absolutely useless and wasted my time). This happens when trying to download/install anything from the Microsoft Store app, and also throws the same code when I try to check for updates on my computer. I'm not sure what else to try. Thanks for any and all help. I've posted a screenshot of the error message from Microsoft Store and Windows Updater and they're the same exact error code.

Hi Chris
I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

Please try these options one by one and check after each option.

1. If you are able to open MS Store, open MS Store > Click on your profile picture on top right and sign-out. Then sign-in again.

2. Windows Key+R > Type services.msc and press Enter > Locate Background Intelligence transfer and ensure it is set to Start and Automatic. Also do the same for Windows Update service as well

3. Reset Windows Store through Command Prompt
Type cmd in Windows Search box > Right click on Command Prompt > Run As Administrator > Type WSreset.exe and click Enter > Reboot your computer

4. Uninstall & Reinstall Store
Windows Key+X > Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter

Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Remove-AppxPackage

Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter > Reboot your computer

Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

5. Check your Antivirus
Temporarily uninstall / disable AV. Enable after troubleshooting.

6. As a last resport, I would recommend that you perform a Windows 10 repair upgrade. Repair upgrade fixes all Windows errors and retains all files, applications and settings. (You will not lose any data while backup is a good idea) Below is a good guide to perform repair upgrade

Click your Start Button, type winver and hit Enter

On the resulting dialog, what Version No. and build No. of Windows 10 are you running?

Hi Chris,

I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 2-Year Windows Insider MVP here to help.
Follow these in order:
1. Try Wsreset: First see if Windows Store Reset works. This should Reset Windows 10 Store cache and if there is a problem with cache, this would clear it.
a. Open Run dialog box(Win+R)
b. Type in wsreset and Press Enter

2. The next step if Wsreset doesn't help is to Reset the Store app. To do this, follow the steps:
a. Open Run Dialog box( Windows+R key)
b. Type in ms-settings:appsfeatures and Press Enter(Alternatively, Start>Settings>Apps and features)
c. Locate Microsoft Store
d. Click Advanced Options
e. Locate and click Reset Button

3. Reset Windows Update components: Resetting Windows update components might also help. Here is an article on how to do that.

a. https://www.yourwindowsguide.com/2015/12/reset-...
4. Check for necessary services: Windows Store is dependent on some Services. Please check if the services are running and Automatic as given below.

a. Right-click Start>Run and Type in Services.msc to open Services.
b. Make sure the status of the following services is Automatic and running
i. Windows License Manager
ii. Background Intelligence Transfer service
iii. Cryptographic Services
iv. Windows Update
v. Windows Store

c. If something is not as intended, you can try Restoring default services
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vw3g7llzu6niode/Resto...

5. Repair install: The last Restort is a reinstallation of Windows. You can do a repair install, which keeps everything including your apps and files.

Hey Sumit,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply to my post. I've tried all of the above mentioned solutions, however nothing has not seemed to work. I've made sure I went through them carefully and slowly so I wouldn't mess/miss anything up. I'm going to hold off on doing a re-installation of windows, but will consider it if I can't figure out what is wrong with the Microsoft Store app. Once again, thanks again and if you have any other possible suggestions please let me know.

Hello  Vijay,

I've tried all of the above suggestions and none of them seemed to work. I have absolutely no idea how come these don't work. The only other option is to possibly do a re-installation of windows 10. Thanks for your help anyway!

Hi Chris,

Microsoft have released version 1903 of Windows 10, click the link below, then click 'Update Now' on that page to immediately get 1903 and bring your PC right up to date

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

If you have any difficulty using the above method, with these major upgrades, the most successful method is to upgrade from the Windows 10 ISO - you download the ISO and then perform an Offline Upgrade

Click this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

Disconnect from the Internet

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe to begin the upgrade . . .

If you did a repair install that keeps everything as well, a reset is a way to go. The error code isn't much help as well.
