Known Issue: Windows Insider Builds 17060 through 17077 - Word unable to save with add-ins running

Hello Office and Windows Insiders.

Recently, Windows Insider builds 17060 through 17077 were released to a subset of Windows Insiders. These builds contain a bug which prevents Word files from being saved if any add-ins are running. Anybody running a Windows Insider build in this range that run Word add-ins will be impacted by this bug. This impacts all versions of Word, including production builds, as well as both traditional save and auto-save.

The issue has been identified and a fix is being worked on, however we do not have an ETA at this time.

In the meantime, users impacted by this issue have two alternatives as a work around:

  1. Use the web version of Word
  2. Uninstall any Word add-ins you have and continue to use Word as normal

-Jesse

[Edited to provide an additional work around and clarify the availability of a fix.]

Jesse,

Just so you're aware, version 17083 was released to Insiders on the Fast ring last Wednesday I believe?

That is correct. Fast should already have the build available. Slow is still waiting to receive it later this week.

Ah, thank you for the feedback.  Seeing as the Slow ring received their first build in a few months just a week and a half ago, I'm kind of surprised they're slated to receive another one so soon...

Is this your guess that Slow will get it later this week, or do you have some 'insider' info from the WindowsInsiders team?  ;)

The team is working to get a new Slow build out sooner than usual because of this issue. They expect it to be later this week, though it is subject to change.
