Xbox 360 won't boot HDD after update :(

Hi there

got a new hard drive today  plugged it in to transfer some files all went well until i updated .

the HDD now won't boot and it gets to the microsoft logo and crashes and repeats to do that !

it boots fine if there isnt a HDD in the xbox

i've also tried this on another xbox 360 .... same issue .

on a multiude of forums i've visited people said the update can go wrong so hold the sync key and power the xbox up and it should remove the newest update and fix the problem .

it didn't so same problem :(

can i get some help please !!

cheers

Hello there!

Try reviewing the link here, see if that helps! However, I am afraid since you state you have previously tried to see of it is fully functional on another console, of which it wasn't, then it may look like you need to purchase a new hard drive! You can do this, by going to the top banner of xbox.com and hover your mouse over Xbox360+Kinect, then select 'where to buy' of which will then direct you to a page with retailers you can purchase a Hard drive from based on your location!

Hope this helps!

Keep us posted!

Hello again!

Just to clarify, if you have tried your Hard drive on two different consoles and the same problem still persists then I am afraid it is a hard drive issue and advise you to refer to my previous post!

However, if you could specify a little bit more about your previous post in relation to what type of troubleshooting you have done, and how it has affected your issue then we may be able to assist you further! :)

Kind regards,

ok this is going to be long

1. took out the hard drive

2. loaded up xbox with worked

3. changed the power on to start disc not the dashboard

4. re-inserted the hard drive  and added a games disc

5  powered up and the xbox worked with the game disc as it bypassed the dashboard

6. saved a new campain on to the hard drive to prove that read and write functions worked on the hard drive.

7.  hit go to dash board   !!! (xbox froze restarted   2nd try xbox froze restarted )!!!

8. loaded up disc instead of dash board i went to system and to storage and entered    x , lb , rb  x ,  lb , rb

this brought up a maintenance panel which i could delete system up dates from i said yes and it did what it said .

9. took out disc

10. loaded up dash board  Success !!!!  deleting the update worked  i had full access to everything!

11. signed in to xbox live     !!!! needed the update before i could join  so i downloaded it.

12. Repeat of issue corrupt xbox live dashboard !!!!!!!!!!!   ISSUE IS NOT SOLVED AND IS ONLY SOLVED BY STAYING OFFLINE

So to Recap read and writing of the HDD is fine i can save and load

the update is causing the problem as far as i can see !

i am in the middle of swapping  an old HDD to a New HDD    the new HDD is the one the updating is have an issue with.

is there something simple i've missed ?

Hey ukpc5,

Unfortunately it does sounds like there is a bad sector on your HDD.

Do you still have all of your data on your old HDD? If so, I would suggest reformatting your new HDD, and hopefully that will fix that bad sector. Then try using the new HDD again.

If that does not work, that means your HDD is bad, and you will want to get your Xbox product repaired.

Let us know if you have any questions!
