Use your Mac to connect your console to Xbox LIVE

Instructions straight from Xbox support.

http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-live/get-started/connecting/mac-computer.aspx

So I got through Step 1 and step 2 but in Step 3, part 8, When I enter the code 225.225.225.0 for the subnet mask, i get the "setting not valid" error that says,"The subnet mask you entered is not valid. This address must be in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.

What is there to do from here? I followed all of the other steps and they worked, why doesn't this one?

Hey mate, it looks like that guide is written specifically for OS X Snow Leopard--is that the same OS that you're running on your mac currently?

Yes. I currently have OS Snow Leopard. At least I believe I do. I looked and it says OS X 10.6.8. Isn't that snow leopard?

Just to clarify, you have no way of connecting to your router or modem directly, right?

@Mister Fitzer Yes. That's what I have on my Mac currently. I have not upgraded to OS X Lion yet.

It's in the basement, but it is still WiFi, correct? I would suggest trying to get the console to connect directly to the WiFi. Older consoles still require the purchase of an external Network Adapter, but the S consoles have one built in.

Yes. I have the network adapter, but it goes out a lot because the walls and floor are thick that go to the basement. Is there anyother wya or do i ahve to figure out how to do it by seeing if there is any possible way to move it up form the basement upstairs?

How is the laptop connected? If you cannot connect in your room, can you take the console closer to the router/modem to see if it will connect at all. Try wired as well.
