Profile Recovery

I've been trying to recover my profile for the past half an hour at a friend's house. The Xbox shows the sign it's loading, and has said I have multiple friends online, but the bar is exactly where it started. There is no one online at the house, and my account is not large, having very few DLC and only 12,330 Gamerscore. Why is this taking so long, and is there any way to abort the process without corrupting my friend's hard drive in any way?

Turning off an Xbox while recovering Gamertag could result in it being corrupted. Once you start it, you cannot abort it safely. Majority of the time, it can take awhile for the profile to be recovered.

When you recover your gamertag to a different Xbox, you will have to redownload any DLC you have purchased to use it. To add to this, if you gained any achievements while offline without getting online before the recovery, you will lose "any achievements that were earned offline"

As for the other situations, perhaps someone else knows about them.

I gave this a shot, left the 360 on all night, and tried to wait it out. It's been 14 hours, and there is no change in the download bar. If I call Microsoft, can they do anything?

If this helps, I really don't care if I get to play on this Xbox, I just want a way to stop this process without corrupting any of a close friend's data.

I suggest for you to call 1800-4My-Xbox to see if they have any tips on how to recover or fix the corrupted profile is there are any.

Is there not an option to stop the recover? I thought you could press (B) there. Maybe try the Guide Button?

I couldn't stop the recover, however I ended up calling Customer Support, and they told me to shut off the console; the only data at risk was any saved data I had on my friend's console. I had no files there, so I just shut it down and deleted any corrupted data.
