Odd Noise

I got my xbox 360 s 4 gig model for christmas of 2010. around march it started to make this weird humming noise on the dashboard or when I turn it on, after use. I don't know if its the fan or what. It tends to increase in pitch then go away. I sent it in to Microsoft, They claimed it was all fixed, which it was not, this was about april and now I'm just finally fed up with putting up with the stupid noise. I'd like an explanation on whats going on. oddly, the console itself is acting as it should, and gameplay has not been effected.
