New Gamertag help

Recently i wanted a 3 letter Gamertag, i found some that werent in use. I found QIV, BHI, IKR. I wanted to change my name to one of those but there in use but not on xbox. I really want one i have the points and everything for them. So is there any way that i can get a Gamertag. And i heard that the oG's will be reset to the people who dont use them anymore when will this take Place thank you

With a name that has a reference to a well known modding site in it I can see why. Most likely they're in use on Zune or GFWL and hence you can't have them. It's only original xbox GTs that are being freed up right now and even then it's random as to what ones are being freed up.

They started reseting original gamertags a few months ago. The only way you can find out if a gamertag is available is by trying to change it to one and see if it's available. There's no way to request that one get freed up.

Spaces don't count when you're trying to change your gamertag to something, even though searching for gamertags doesn't ignore the spaces.


  • Q IV is a current Xbox 360 gamertag
  • B HI looks like an original Xbox gamertag; maybe it will get recycled some day
  • ikr is a current Xbox 360 gamertag


You can't find out for sure whether a gamertag is in use except by trying to change your gamertag to it.
