I recently received an Email indicating that Xbox Live found an issue with my Xbox DVD drive and wishes to replace it with a new one.
From what I've been able to find, it is legit (not a phishing scam), however there are a number of issues I'm running into.
(1) "This offer is only for Console ID _XXXXXXXXXXXXX" -The number in the Email does not match the physical number on my Xbox. WHY? I bought it used and learned that the DVD drive had been replaced. Obviously this is a drive issue, and they wish to replace it, but I have no idea where the drive was sourced from.
(2) The serial number can also be found on the dashboard. Problem (2): the Xbox has recently RROD'd for the... 3rd time? I've had it reflowed (not heatguned, actually done on a reflow table professionally). It was out of warranty, and it was opened for the DVD drive replacement anyway, so I saw no problem with it. So problem number 2, it's RROD (this was actually about 2 days ago!).
So, obviously I'd like to make this happen... But the console ID has me concerned.
PS: Not sure if this was the right place to post this, but the only other post concerning this Email was posted in this forum as well.
