Faulty installation process when using new 250 GB hdd.

'Sigh' ok so here's the deal:

I resently bought myself a 250 GB hdd, since my old 20GB just wasn't enough.

I thought that since I already had an 16GB USB memory, why bother with a transfer cable?

So what I did was to transfer over all of my contents, first my USB content, and then

the content stored on my 20GB, by first transfering it to my USB, and from there

transfering it to my new hdd.

Everything seemed to work out just as I'd planned, until I decieded to install all of my games

to the hdd. But suddenly I "hit a brick wall" when trying to install Assassin's Creed Brotherhood!

In the middle of the installation process  the console automatically restarts and when I check my hdd under system settings

it says that the data for ASB is corrupted. Had to delete it AND clear the system cache, or

otherwise the corrupted data would pop up again the next time I turned on the console. Other problems I encountered

was that unless I'd cleared my cache, I couldn't transfer content to my built-in 256MB memory (Arcade... remember ;)),

nor could I log onto Xbox Live(!)

Also tried with a couple of other games I had yet to install, including GoW 2 and Mirror's Edge,

but the same problem occured.

All of my DLC seem to be working, and the console doesn't struggle with playing any game,

be that playing from the new hdd or directly from the disc. It's all very strange and annoying.

Please answer if you have any tips on the subject (besides re-formating, which would be my last resort and a big pain...)

What type of flash drive did you use? Did you use the official Xbox 360 Flash Drive?

Make sure the disc isn't scratched or dirty and then if this problem still occurs you should be able to get a refund and buy a new HDD

Ok so after some "fiddling around" it would seem that this particular hdd is in fact NOT a 250 GB.

In the end I decided to re-format my hdd and try to install ASB, GoW and Mirror's Edge first, and it all worked out without a scratch. It would seem that I hit an "invisible limit" every time there's approx. 159 GB of space left -_- Very strange indeed.

Anyhow, I'll think I'll stick to this hdd, considering I bought it dirt cheap (relatively speaking ;)). I really don't need remaining GBs, especially since I've already got my USB memory. To be honest, my biggest fear was that the hdd ITSELF was malfunctioning (potential data loss and whatnot), which thankfully doesn't seem to be the case.

Well in any case, thanks for trying to help me out :)

Was the hdd you bought an official MS hdd or a third party one? Third party hdd have been known to cause issues and are not recommended by MS.
