what is the average lifespan of a cmos battery?

The normal life of a CMOS battery is 3 to 5 years. To be honest i've had them last up to 6 years. It is diffcult to say why your battery has died after just two years, it maybe just an inferior battery. I suppsoe you could ask the same question about a watch battery. Why does one battery last 12 months and another 18 to 24 months?

CMOS batteries are not that expensive and are easily changed, so long as you know where to find it on your motherboard. With some motherboards you cannot miss the battery whereas others it maybe hidden by wiring or somthing similar.

I wouldn't worry about it only lasting 2 years, just change it and, hopefully, this next one will last longer.

I heard that it is 3 to 5 years but I  brought the computer just 2 years ago and I am taking outmost  care of it then why is it dead??????????????

3-5 years is a typical number, but averages don't mean much. Some last longer, some last less time.

And you don't know how old the battery was when you bought the computer two years go.

A new battery is very cheap (around $2 US) and easy to replace. Just replace it and don't worry about it..

You also have to consider the time before you bought the PC.

Your MB may have been manufactured a few months before going to the store and that also affects the battery life.

Another thing to consider is long shutdown periods. CMOS batteries aren´t rechargeable and can run out of charge if the system is not powered on for long time.
