Windows 8 Release Preview Media Center Search returning no results.

As it did in the Consumer Preview of Windows 8, the Guide search option in Media Center in Release Preview still constantly shows up as being indexed and the search returns no results. This is on a Windows 8 x64 machine.

I tried adding Media Center to the Indexing Options, but it's not in there as an option.
Indexing is complete and I have at least a weeks worth of guide listings.

I tried running a schedule to Register Search on Media Centre in task Schedular, also no change.

Any advance on this issue?

Cheers, Phil.

Answer

Hi Phil,

We have identified the issue internally and are working on a fix. In the meantime, this should get your Search working in Media Center again.

  • Remove the SearchRegistered value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\EPG
  • Stop the Windows Search service
  • Open an elevated command window
  • Change directory to %windir%\ehome
  • Run "ehprivjob /DoRegisterSearch"

After that, a new item for Windows Media Center will appear on the Indexing Options panel. The guide should work again after the index has been built for it.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Thanks,.

Nico
