Excel update (KB2810048) - Windows keeps saying update is needed, but update history shows it successfully installed???

Good evening,

I downloaded and installed all the 29 updates this evening;  Windows said all updates installed successfully in the Update History log.  I then restarted the computer as instructed.  However, Windows keeps telling me that the Excel KB2810048 needs to be installed.  Even Secunia is telling me the same thing.

I have manually updated a total of 3 more times.  Each update was listed as successful, but whenever I check Windows Update again...it continues telling me that particular update is needed.  (All the other 28 updates installed successfully).  The Update History Log now shows a total of 4 updates for the aforementioned Excel update - all supposedly successful.

My question:  Can someone please advise how to resolve this issue?

Thank you for your time and any assistance!

Regards,

PC

I have had the exact same issue with this update on two of my computers. I uninstalled all the updates tried again, No luck and I also installed KB2810048 manually and still the same problem. Something obviously is wrong with this update.

I also did a system restore before updates and same problem.

This is really annoying I don't know what else to do.

I have the same issue on Windows 8 64 bit (I know, I know, officially Office 2003 is not supported for Windows 8 for some crazy reason, as it worked fine on 7, but I can install it without issue on 8, and it works fine).
So, the KB2810048 is shown as installed three times, AND still wants to be installed again, as it is present as an important update after manually checking.... Unortunatelly I will have to install it few more times, as I'm before installing File Format Converter (that one with compability for Office 2007+ file formats), as this is a fresh Windows installation and I'm establishing everything from a fresh state..
My five last entries in the update history (it's Polish)

Aktualizacja zabezpieczeń produktu Excel 2003 (KB2810048)
Aktualizacja zabezpieczeń produktu Excel 2003 (KB2810048)
Aktualizacja funkcji walidacji plików pakietu Office 2010 (KB2553065), wersja 32-bitowa
Aktualizacja zabezpieczeń produktu Excel 2003 (KB2810048)
Aktualizacja zabezpieczeń produktu Office 2003 (KB2726929)

Ah yes, the same here on a windows 7 64-bit machine. I redid the windows update three times, I ran the Microsoft fix it 50123, rebooted and I still get the same result: windows update does NOT recognize that these updates have been successfully installed.

The same happens for update KB2760588 and KB2760411.

So there seems to be a problem with office 2003 updates.

Meanwhile I ran the windows update automated troubleshooter from the Microsoft website.

This program reported back the following results:

problems installing recent updates: not fixed

check for missing or corrupt files: detected

some security settings are missing or have been changed: fixed

service registration is missing or corrupt: fixed.

I then rebooted my system and reinstalled KB2810048, KB2760411, KB2760588. After installing I got the message "updates were successfully installed".

I went back to windows update and it still believes those three updates have not been installed.

And before I forget: all the other updates for windows installed without problem AND windows update did NOT ask to install again, and again. These updates are: KB2836943, KB2868116, KB2876315, KB2597973, KB2825621, KB2872339, KB2853952, 2817474, 2760283, 2817682, 890830, 2825947, 2870699.

I have exactly the same issue on my Windows 7 Laptop for the same update. I also have another PC with XP and the problem is there for 3 other updates which I know other people have also.

It's clearly up to Microsoft to sort this out. For the time being I have hidden the update//updates because I find it very irritating.

I have this same issue with a Security Update for Excel 2003 KB2810048. I also received update notices for two Security Updates for Office 2007, even though this machine only has 2003 installed (which were KB2760411 and KB2760588).

I rebooted after the update completed the first time, primarily due to the fact that the same updates came up as needed a second time. Aa a result, all three of theses were installed successfully twice, but still show as available needing installation. The OS is Vista.

This happened two years ago too.
Just wait a few days until it is fixed and does not update more.
The first installation was correct.
Disable windows update a few days.

Greetings everyone!

I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed their respective feedback to the problem I presented.  Since I use MS Office 2010 on this computer, I decided to just uninstall the Office 2003 version, and rebooted the computer.

Although the Secunia icon is now showing green again, when I ran another MBSA scan, it does give me a "yellow shield" alert that there was an incomplete software installation.  The scan report indicated that a reboot may be needed to complete the installation.

When I installed the 29 updates yesterday, I DID reboot as requested, so I'm a bit confused as to why MBSA is giving me the aforementioned alert.  Aside from those Windows updates done yesterday, there have been no other updates or changes made to any programs/applications on this computer.

Any ideas as to why this alert is being displayed and/or how to resolve it?

Thanks again for your time and any feedback!

Fine, if it does get fixed. I too have had this type of problem before and they have not been fixed.

Hello:

I am running Windows XP professional.

Just to add to this post:   Even after I successfully install the update mentioned above, Windows Update keeps telling me to install it again... over and over.

These are the updates that keep "coming back":
KB2810048
KB2760588
KB2760411

Regards,

Rich Locus
