original title: Windows 7 Won't install!
Hello, I'm having all sorts of trouble with this computer I built a while back. I'm not an expert on computers, I vaguely know my way around bios and I know how to put together a computer. Anyways, everything was going fine until one day I come home to find my computer shut down. I try to turn it on, and everything goes well, until it gets to the windows loading screen. From there it tells me windows has failed to start, which brings me to system recovery. I ran the start up repair, only to be told that there was nothing to be found wrong with my computer. So I put in my windows 7 cd, and ran the repair tool, which didn't do anything either. So I tried to reformat and reinstall windows. But now windows won't even install. The first few times I couldn't get past the "expanding files" portion of windows installation, and I would end up getting a random error, different every time. Thinking it was a disc problem, I put in my vista CD. I couldn't get past the "expanding files" on vista either. It would go from 90-100% to a restart, straight back to the "boot from CD/DVD" screen. After reading online I came across a solution that it was a RAM problem. I have two 4gb sticks of ddr3 ram. So I tried switching the ram slots on both to fresh ones on my mb. Then tried installing again. Same thing. Afterwards I tried taking each ram stick out and trying them individually. I finally got windows to install on my second stick of ram. But after the restart, I got a blue screen. So I restarted again only to get the "bootmngr missing" or whatever. So I stuck my windows cd back in, and ran the cmd console, and typed the bootrec /fixboot command, only to bring me to another "boot from CD/DVD" screen.
I'm stuck -.- any suggestions?
