Since Cumulative update KB4038788 MicroSD reader does not work

My Windows tablet installed KB4038788 and since then I can't use MicroSD slot.

All my cards are not working or not showing in Explorer, (4,8,32GB).

Since Creative update only my 4Gb and 16Gb cards was working (others can only write about 5-6Mb and whole Explorer freezes after going in card files).

However I was using 16Gb card with 10/10Mbps speed.

Now, with latest KB4038788, I can only use 16Gb card, writing speed is awful (around 500Kb/s) and it breaks after 6-30Mbps of writing.

I don't know why everything was working before Creative update, then only this 16Gb and now other cards show on "SD storage class controller" saying "This device cannot start. (Code 10) The I/O device reported an I/O error.", is it drivers or what?

Company which makes tablet Ionik W1051 (based on Intel Z8300) is no longer working, but they said before it's not their fault, it must be Windows problem and their update.

I don't have option to uninstall this update, can Microsoft do something fast?

Same problem is reporting users with Intel Z8300 on Chuwi Hi8 and other devices.

(old list of drivers vs new)

Hello,

As per the details regarding your concern, this can be an issue of a corrupted update. For us to resolve this, we can run the Windows Update Troubleshooter as an initial troubleshooting step. That doesn't help. And update was successful.

Chuwi Hi10 Plus, Dell, I.onik, Teclast and many others are reporting same problem with latest Windows update .

It seams that INTEL SD HOST CONTROLLER  (and "SD HOST CONTROLLERS") driver version was 10.0.15063.332 and now 10.0.15063.608 which caused this.

Both Intel driver was provided by Microsoft. There is no option to roll-back drivers.

Also, many users (like me) with SD cards which work are getting terrible slow writing speed.

Even when we download old Intel SD Host drivers, restart in special mode to install unsigned drivers, Device manager doesn't allow us to "update" to older version, it always says "The best driver software is already installed".

Microsoft needs to provide fix for this, I spend hours trying to fix this with no luck.

I tried many SD controller drivers including old Intel SD controller 6.3.9600.16408 (by Microsoft) which worked before Cumulative update KB4038788 with no luck. Main problem is that cards which was working before now has speed of writing only 0.9-1 Mbps but reading is now 36Mbps.

Before update it was stuck on 10/10Mbps but without freezing SD card and Explorer.

Something was done in KB4038788 which caused all this.

I already saw list of bugs (including Edge) but this is more important to me.

SD card has only 940KB/s to write and I can't even open any document since this update. All devices with Intel Z8300 now have this problem and Microsoft changed drivers in latest update but also something else because now not even older drivers resolve anything.

Apologies for the late response.  We suggest that you use that you use the Roll Back Driver feature. This will replace a device driver by using a previously installed version. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Type Device Manager in the search files on the taskbar.
  2. Click on Device Manager under Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the device for which you want to restore the driver.
  4. Click the Driver tab, and then click the Roll Back Driver button.

If there's anything else, do let us know right away.

As I said, that does not work. There must be something else in update which caused this.

Have you tried installing the latest KB update? You may check the KB4040724 update from your Settings > Update and Security to see if installing the update will resolve the MicroSD reader issue you're currently in.

We'll be waiting for your response.
