HELP!! Do I have corrupt ACL files? How do I fix them?

I only have C: access to my system

Hi,

This issue may occur if the System or Software registry hives have become damaged or corrupted.

Following these steps should only be used if you are attempting to use the "Refresh your PC" or "Reset your PC" options in Windows Recovery Environment because your system is in a non-bootable state.

  1. After Automatic Repair fails to repair your PC, select See advanced repair options and then Troubleshoot.
  2. Select Advanced options and then select Command Prompt.
  3. If prompted, enter in the password for the user name.
  4. At the Command Prompt, go to \windows\system32\config folder by typing the following command: cd %windir%\system32\config
  5. Rename the System and Software registry hives to System.001 and Software.001 by using the following commands:
    ren system system.001
    ren software software.001
  6. Type exit to exit the Command Prompt and reboot the PC back to the Automatic Repair screen.
  7. After selecting Advanced options and then click on Troubleshoot, select either Refresh your PC or Reset your PC.

NOTE: Renaming the Software hive will not allow you to use the "Refresh your PC" option. If you want to use the "Refresh your PC" option, only rename the System hive. If the Software hive is also corrupt, you may not be able to use the "Refresh your PC" option.

Let us know the result.

Thanks Rafael.

I followed your recommendation to rename System and Software.

When I tried to rename Software I got the following:
"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

I went ahead and attempted to reset the PC and it got to 34% before it failed.

I noticed the date listed for both System and Software in the config dir is 1 day before the restore image date (which also fails).

What do we try next?

Is there a way to repair the files listed with ACL errors?

D:\windows\system32\c_20001.NLS are not proper
   access control repair
result failed Error Code = 0x2
Same errors for:D:\windows\system32\C_20278.NLS
Same errors for:D:\windows\system32\WUDFHost.exe

We suggest that you perform a repair install or custom install in Windows 10 to fix this issue.

Please click on this link and follow Andre Da Costa's suggestion to know how to perform custom install in Windows 10.
