Can not slect multiple emails using shift key in windows 10

Having just upgraded to Windows 10, it appears that I cannot Shift-Click to select multiple emails to file or delete. It appears that I can control click to select one at a time. Does anyone has a solution to this? I have seen one post and answer on this exact question and I have tried the suggestions the Microsoft engineers made with no luck. Here are there suggestions.

Is the problem specific to emails?

Yes

Try using the keyboard on other programs and check.

Did the keyboard worked fine

Also try it with another keyboard and check

NA this is a laptop and I do not have another keyboard, but the key board worked properly when I went to outlook.com.

Reboot your PC and check.

Did

Install all Windows pending updates and check if there are any.

I am told I am up to date

I would suggest you to run the keyboard troubleshooter and check.

Follow these steps.

1. Type troubleshooter in the search bar

2. Select view all on the left panel.

Did not see select all Went to control panel and selected hardware

3. From the list select hardware and devices and follow the on-screen instructions.

Only option I saw was for the laptop it's self

message:everything is working properly

So what can I do everything was working before the upgrade

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 is much appreciated.

What happens when you press Shift + Del? does it delete?

I would suggest you to check the issue by connecting external keyboard to the USB port and check. You can also try hold Shift and pressing the <> keys.

Try the below methods and check if that helps:

Method 1: Run the SFC.

Follow the below steps:

  1. Open Command Prompt.
  1. Select “Run as Administrator”.
  2. Type “sfc /scannow” without quotes and hit Enter.

Now check for the issue.

Method 2: You can uninstall the drivers and reinstall.

1. Go to Start and click on Device Manager.
2. Then go to Keyboard and right click on it's name and click on uninstall.
To reinstall the drivers right click on your Keyboard name and finally click Update Driver Software
3. You have two options here, click the option that reads "search automatically for updated driver software".

Keep us posted if you face any issues on windows in future. We will be glad to help you.

Thanks & Regards,
AS

Can someone help, here is a synopsis of my contact with Microsoft and my issue

I upgraded to windows 10 from Windows 8.1 Sunday evening August 16, 2015. I did not look at my computer again until Monday morning August 17, 2015. I was looking at the differences between the two versions of windows. I started synchronizing my emails (I had used the windows app in 8.1 which has been replaced in windows 10). After I finished down loading my emails, I attempted to select multiple emails using the shift key, which I was unable to do. I went to the windows 10 community and found someone with the exact problem (lakesidemgmt on August 9). I tried the solution offered by Anula D'Souza (support engineer) from August 10th with no luck. I then posted (reposted) my issues on the windows 10 forum.  I then contacted Microsoft windows support (866-425-8809) and left a call back number. I was contacted 1 1/2 hours later by Xavier. For the next 3 hours he worked on my system remotely uninstalling reinstalling different programs to no avail. That is when he informed me he was escalating the problem and he would need to have someone else help me. He told me he could schedule  this help on Thursday at 9:00 am (two days later) reference number  1300731678. I agreed (what choice did I have) I also received a confirming email. On August 18th I received a reply from Ann Singh (support engineer) and I tried what I could from her suggestions but I am in over my head.

Today August 19th at 3:00 pm I still had not heard from Microsoft. The phone number I gave for a call back was a house number, no one ever calls and I have been here all day and the caller ID is clear. So I know Microsoft did not call. I call the Microsoft support line again, I am told the call back time would be 244 minutes, so I left my cell phone number as a call back number just in case I was actually to receive my originally scheduled call back.  At 7:01 pm I receive a call from Ariel I gave him my reference number and asked why I have not been contacted. He put me on hold, when he returned he assured me someone would contact me in one hour, after verifying which phone number (home phone) I wanted called by the tech who was working on my escalated problem.

Considering how long Microsoft has been working on the release of windows 10 and their inability to keep a scheduled call back that was made two day's in advance within an acceptable time frame, I personally find appalling. I know they are busy, that is why I agreed to the appointment. The appointment was scheduled early in the morning, so even if they were running a bit late (which is understandable) we would still have time during the day to work on my problem, but eight hour late, I do have better things to do than wait for them all day.  Keep in mind I am a paying customer and I do not like being held hostage due to incompetence. Now I will have to waste another day, it is truly unfortunate that Microsoft does not have any real competition in the PC market and that we really do not have any other options.

The time is 8:30 pm and I am going to post how I lost a day in my life that I will never get back.

Jerry Herring

Can I charge them for my time?

To the support engineers, thanks for trying to help

I just upgraded to windows 10 too and I'm having the same problem. Also, A lot of my email messages are NOT syncing over into my previously created folders. Uh oh, looks like somebody dropped the ball on the "development testing" team. How could you forget or choose not to add the "select all" feature in the mail app? Smh. One work around until they come up with a solution, if you haven't figured it out for yourself already @thehandwerker, would be to login to your email account via your web browser (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.) and delete the messages via the browser. Once I did that and clicked on the "sync" icon via Windows 10 mail, it updated the changes I made via the browser. Thank God my email messages were present via my previously created folders as well.   Hope this helps*

FYI "I'm also using a laptop, so trust, its not a "faulty" keyboard issue. #trail&error

Holding down delete is a decent solution but only if you want to delete all your emails.  It's risky and troublesome if you want to delete large sections from searches etc....  I have my Mail App connected to several different email accounts and some of them have rather important emails I don't want to accidentally delete.    Guess I'll have to install outlook 2007 just for a simple function that works in the web browser (outlook.com, outlook365.com, etc)

It may be too late to point out.  But you can use the feature suggestion feature in windows 10 to recommend this or other ideas you have.  However I believe I read Microsoft is stopping suggestions somewhere between Oct 30th and Nov 16.   You also get 20 suggestions/votes.   More info here

On Win 10, to select multiple files, say in a picture folder, click on the first file you want (a check will appear in little box), then hold down the shift key and use your arrow keys on your keyboard to select rows or columns of additional files.

DON't reinstall your drivers, Don't check your keyboard function if you can type capital letters, and don't listen to idiots from Microsoft.
