Windows 10 Mail intercepting/hijacking my Windows Live Mail

OK, I am a new Windows 10 user - upgraded last night (24 hours ago) -- much harder to understand and work with all the new changes/apps than I thought.

I probably have at least a dozen questions about Windows 10 Mail (and also the new Edge browser), but let me start with my most pressing issue.

It looks like I am not ready for Windows 10 Mail -- because I just don't understand what I am getting into.  When I brought up the Windows 10 Mail yesterday, it asked for my Account Name -- and immediately I was stuck.  A lot of apps say "Account Name", but what they want is my email address -- so was I supposed to enter my name (Ron Smith) or my email address, and if it wants an email address, does it want my email, my gmail, Hotmail, Microsoft Account Name, etc.

And it appeared I already had an Account set up (according to Windows 10 Mail) -- by the name of "Rr" with my normal email address.  So where did that come from -- am I supposed to replace the "Rr" or what.  Also, my ISP is a POP3 server, but I never inputted any of the Incoming Mail, Outgoing Mail addresses when messing around with these Accounts -- so is Windows 10 Mail getting that information from the currently configured Windows Live Mail program.

Anyway, by messing around with various options, I ended up with about 700 emails in my Inbox (in the Windows 10 Mail app) -- and no place to put them.  Tried the "Move" option on a couple of the emails, but no place to move them.  [Have since found some info on how to create folders -- which also baffles me because I saw other complaints that Windows 10 Mail didn't have folders.]

Anyway, I wanted to start all over, so I Deleted ALL of the email accounts that were set up by my messing around -- and tried to set up the Accounts again, and eventually got the 700+ emails back in my Windows 10 Mail Inbox.  Anyway, I finally decided I was not ready for Windows 10 Mail yet -- until I understood better what was gong on.

However, when I went back to my Windows Live Mail, I find I only have about a half-dozen emails in my Inbox dated 12/23/15 -- and even though I have Deleted all of the Mail accounts in Windows 10 Mail, Windows Live Mail is no longer getting mail from my ISP.

I have since discovered that by logging in directly to my ISP, that the ISP has about 700+ emails in it's Inbox and it looks like I have it set up to keep emails on the server for 15 days before them being deleted (so that s good).

So here is my dilemma:

1)  How do I get Windows Live Mail active again -- to read mail from my POP3 server.

2)  Is there a way to get Windows Live Mail (WLM) to re-read (download) all of the mail I missed yesterday (probably 40 messages).

3)  I can't find information on migrating all of 5+ years of WLM emails (and folders) to Windows 10 Mail -- or does it just not work that way.

Lastly, I am not opposed to reading some documentation telling me what is going on with Windows 10 Mail -- to help me understand what is going on -- and there is a lot out there -- and I have read a lot -- and I still don't really understand -- like is Windows 10 Mail a replacement for WLM or is it just a cheap, fast substitute.  Is there a migration of the WLM folders, etc. to Windows 10 Mail, etc.

I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, using IE 11.0 and Windows Live Mail on a POP3 server.

Windows Live Mail works differently from Mail app.

For Mail app: Yes you can not create folders on Mail app, if you have folders created on your account on a website, then it will show the folders when you add the account to Mail app.

If you are using a Microsoft account to log into your system, Mail app will be automatically logged in with that account. If you want to add any other account then you can add to it.

You can add any email account/email address to Mail app.

Thanks for the quick response of the Post I did last night at 2 am.

Sort of a false panic about WLM last night -- because WLM is working this morning (got a bunch of email that came in overnight and this morning).  Although, I will do as you suggested and post a query in the WLM forum / community to see if there is any way to recover the 12/23 mail that was lost yesterday, I guess because I was temporarily receiving the mail into the Windows 10 Mail app.

Not a terribly big deal in this case because most of the mail coming into that particular email address is kind-of junk mail (advertisements from retail outfits I have subscribed to and a bunch of financial things I have also subscribed to) -- but I would still like to stay in sync with the email coming in.  And I can look through the email I received (NOT) yesterday because it is still saved at my ISP, at least for another 15 days.

But this brings up a question.  If Windows 10 Mail is running, is it intercepting my email from my ISP.  What happens if I have both of the Mail programs active.  Is it a timing thing where some mail goes to Windows 10 Mail and other email goes to my WLM, depending on who queries the ISP first.  In other words, what are conflicts from running both Mail apps at the same time and what is the suggested ways of handling this situation.

I will also look through your notes and suggested links and see if I have any more Windows 10 Mail questions -- which I am sure I will.  And also, let me follow-up now with one more question.  Is Windows 10 Mail intended to be a replacement for IE 11 (i.e. will IE go away) or is it just a supplemental mail app -- because IE 11 has so many more features and capabilities (like the Print preview, Print selected and Shrink to fit) that set it apart for all other Mail apps.

Also, as I mentioned, the mail going to my older email address is mostly advertisements and other non-important stuff - whereas all of my "important, personal, serious" email goes to my gmail account -- and I want/need to fully understand Windows 10 Mail before I get my gmail account involved with it (which you can do, can't you).

My emails are obviously too long, so let me just say I do not understand the above response.

I didn't see any folders in the Windows 10 Mail app when I set it up -- and didnt' see "any" option for migrating my WLM folders into the Windows 10 Mail app - should I be able to do that.

OK, looks like no help with my question(s) here.

Regarding my last post, I have since sort-of deciphered Kalpana Shankarappa's response - I think he is talking IMAP protocol - and considering that, his response makes sense, I guess.

Meanwhile, the comments on running WLM on Windows 10 ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE - including a note from Microsoft that they are coming out with a change that will fix it so that WLM will never run on Windows 10 and suggest the everyone convert over to the new Windows 10 Mail app (I guess that is one way to solve the problem).

But my other problem is that I have a new Christmas present Laptop for my wife sitting in a corner right now, waiting for a resolution of the WLM issues.  I could probably handle the problems, the changes, but my wife couldn't.

Anyway, I am going to try and pick the issue up in/on the WLM community forums.
