Outlook crashing due to Images

Outlook crashes when I try to open a email with a picture embedded in the email. This happened in outlook 2007 also. I have the preview pane in my outlook and when i click on the email it crashes there. Then, when i start outlook in safe mode, there is no issue with the email. It opens fine and I can see the embedded picture. How can I fix it so it wont crash when outlook is running normally?
