Onedrive Business Sync Extremely Slow

Hello

I am using onedrive for business on a broadband connection with speeds of 100mb upload and download. When placing a new file in the shared folder on the drive it is only syncing at max 98kb/s meaning the 200mb file takes over 30 minutes to upload. Download sync speeds to shared users are worse.

I have tried the tip of doing it in smaller folder batches but the speeds are constantly slow.

There are no limits on the onedrive network connection so i know it is not limited by the program config, fresh install of the program also has no effect. This is apparent on windows 7, 8.1 and 10 devices so cant be O/S related.

I also use dropbox on my computer and the same file takes seconds to upload and download if i put it in here.

Whats the solution microsoft?

Ben

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your updates.

Please check the following:

1.Right click the OneDrive icon in the task bar>Settings>Network> make sure Upload rate and Download rate both select Don't limit.

2.Use a wired instead of a wireless connection to see the outcome.

3.Unlink OneDrive and run OneDrive setup again.

To do this, please right click the OneDrive icon in the task bar>Settings>Unlink this PC> follow the steps in the Welcome to OneDrive wizard to set up OneDrive.

In addition, here are two articles for your reference:

Maximize upload and download speed

Restrictions and limitations when you sync files and folders

If the issue persist, please provide a related screenshot about "When placing a new file in the shared folder on the drive it is only syncing at max 98kb/s" for troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Tina

Hi Tina

just to clarify as the original post says, this isnt isolated to one PC or version / download of the onedrive client so i fail to see how this will help.

If i reset it and it wants to sync all my files again i dont have the time to do this based in the poor speeds, i dont seem to be the only one with this issue judging by the amount of posts on the subject.

Hi Ben,

Please double check the version of OneDrive, if it is not the latest, please update it and check if it helps.

Please refer to this article:  New OneDrive sync client release notes

If the issue persists, for further troubleshooting, please help to confirm the following information:

1.Regrding the "shared folder" you mentioned in your original post, do you mean the local OneDrive sync folder on Windows? If not, please clarify it.

2.Please try to perform a clean boot in Windows to eliminate software conflicts and check if the speed of OneDrive synchronization is still slow.

Regards,

Tina

Hello Tina

I feel like we are suggesting the same things over again when actually, if you look through various chats there are more people experiencing the issues with speeds than me, it seems like microsoft are limiting the speeds unless it is escalated higher.

To be clear i can use dropbox and obtain upload and download speeds close to our 100mb connection speed, where as onedrive gets no where near. Onedrive does this on multiple PC's so is not a local client issue therefore these tips on resetting conenections are irrelevant and when tried do nothing.

How do i actually get this escalated so it gets resloved, or do we as a user and businees buy a product from someone else that actually works?

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben,

Please help to confirm the following information for further investigation:

1.Make sure the version of your OneDrive sync client  is the latest(17.3.7073.1013).

If not, please uninstall it and install the latest one in Download part in this article.

2.How is your OneDrive deployed? Did you download and install it by yourself or is it deployed by your administrator?

If OneDrive is deployed by your administrator, you can try to modify the related registry key value to change the speed of Uploading or downloading.

Please refer to Set the maximum upload/download throughput that OneDrive .exe uses parts in this article.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Edit at your own risk. You can back up your registry first. It also applies to Windows 10

3.If the speed of uploading or downloading files is still slow which is like the screenshots you provided before(showing 1 file remaining), please move the affected file both from local sync folder and online location.

After the syncing status disappears from the OneDrive menu, put the file back in the sync folder again to restart the synchronization.

Besides, please also try to create a new file (for example, Word document), drag the file to local sync folder, check if the speed is still slow.

4.For the previous affected files, are they created and stored in your local computer? Or they are shared files? Please help to clarify it.

5.Where are the files stored online? In OneDrive for Business or SharePoint online site?

If the issue still exists after you try all the suggestions above, please provide your tenant information and related logs in private message.

To protect your privacy, I have sent you a private message to collect the information.

You can check the PM via the link below:

We appreciate your time and effort.
