TH1 Professional 10240 update loop

Hi,

I have a PC running build 10130 and it tries to update to TH1 Professional 10240, but never seems to make it.

Observations

  1. Windows Update will notice a new build is available
  2. It will download build 10240
  3. spend some time preparing the updates
  4. After which windows update will propose a reboot to complete te upgrade
  5. On shutdown it will linger for a while "configuring for update" until it reaches 100%
  6. After which it will finally reboot
  7. The normal BIOS screen will flicker
  8. The blue w10 logo is shown while booting
  9. but after like 2 seconds the logo will disappear and the BIOS will reappear like if it has been reset
  10. The second time the blue logo appears it will continue to boot as normal
  11. After logging on nothing has changed and when Windows Update is started it will start of at line 1 again

So for I've repeated this loop several times while

  • Having DISM validate the restore health of the current image
  • Forcing a clean hardware boot (disabled all non microsoft services/startup programs)
  • Having sfc /scannow report nothing is wrong

Why o why won't it upgrade to 10240? It seems to me something is going wrong at step 9 where it seems to reset on boot. But I don't know how to analyse whats causing the reset.

Help please?

Apodictus

I have this situation from 10162.

The update for th1 10240 downloads, it configures etc restarts and its back to 10162.  Ive done this like 10 times already.

Found my "solution".

Seems the problem is in the intel G3258 processor in this system or better the windows 10 bug introduced in 10168 and still remaning causing windows 10 to  be unable to install on a G3258 based system :(

Simply google "windows 10 G3258" and you'll find tons of people having the same problem.

Seems disabling the use of all core's is a temporary fix

I have the exact same issue here on build 10162. After downloading the "10240" update, restarting without scheduling, and booting back into Windows 10 nothing changes. It's still build 10162. I've yet to find a viable solution to this issue but perhaps things will change server side (Windows Update) on July 29th?
