Canon MF4150 scanner not recognised after November 18/19 Windows Update

I have run Canon MF4150 on Vista 32 without any problems for more than a year - until last week's Windows Update. Integrated printer still works fine. But when I try to use the scanner, I get the message from MF Toolbox that there is no supported scanner installed. System restore puts everything back to normal, and there is no updated driver available. Can't do a system restore every day, and I don't want to turn off Windows Update. Any ideas please?

IN RE KB976470: Check the "following changes..." section of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976098: If you do not reside in any of those time zones (i.e., Georgia or Greenland, as you live in Europe), you can keep this one hidden. (I'd doubt this update caused the problem).

IN RE KB976470: If the "Date and Time window in Control Panel" never displays the error message "Daylight Saving Time ends on [Date out of range] at 0:00...The clock is not set to adjust for this change", you can keep this one hidden, too. (I'd doubt this update caused the problem).

IN RE KB973688: If Security Update for Windows Vista (KB954430) is listed in Add/Remove Programs, it'd be OK to keep this one hidden. (KB973688 is not a critical security update.)

IN RE KB973687: If you've never encountered situations where retrieval requests cause a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web server to block well known Document Type Definition (DTD) file types [or you don't even know what that means], it'd be OK to keep this one hidden. (KB973687 is not a critical security update.)

=======

Note: You may wish to keep Automatic Updates set to the "Download updates but let me choose when to install them" option. This setting is self-explanatory (i.e, updates will download but will not install, individually or as a group, without your approval).

If you select the third setting ("Check for updates but let me choose..."), no updates will be downloaded without your approval. However, the approved updates will be downloaded and installed automatically once you have approved them.
