Edge favorites not in their normal Favorite folder - moved to RoamingState folder as .json files

Whats up with the Edge fav folder, went to it to delete all and start over, after deleting and reimporting there are NONE in the fav folder.  But Edge still has them listed in the drop down in edge browser. But fav folder is empty

We did some digging and found them now here.

they're being stored as .json files here:

%KOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\RoamingState

They are text files that can be examined in Notepad.

Icons seem to be cached here:

%KOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\DataStore\Data\nouser1\120712-0049\Favorites

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to delete the files from the Favorite from this location %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\favorite and check if you are still viewing the files from the favorite.

Note: After deleting files from the favorites folder you have to restart the computer and check.

The files which are available in the Roaming state folder are the default files which will create for each favorite link in the favorite and it will be in text format.

Please reply to us with the status of the issue.

Thanks.

As stated earlier I have deleted all the favs in that Favorite folder, there are NO files in it.  But I still have favorites in the Edge browser drop down list.  They seem to be picking them up from the Roamingstate folder.  See user note above

Even after re-importing from IE favorites, there are NO FILES in the Edge favorite folder.

Here is what we seem to find now where the favorites are being sent

We did some digging and found them now here.

they're being stored as .json files here:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\RoamingState

They are text files that can be examined in Notepad.

This is what is in one of the json files as text - not HTML that we can read

{"Collection":0,"SchemaVersion":1,"ItemId":"{0d6d5cbe-14d3-4d51-a464-b9d8f2c76800}","ParentId":"{ecdc416b-78bd-45b1-a3b4-727d4ffcdcc6}","OrderNumber":5348024557502464,"IsFolder":false,"Title":"httpwww.youtube.comwatchv=8fF0DF-mbn4","URL":"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fF0DF-mbn4","DateUpdatedLow":2544839728,"DateUpdatedHigh":30482082,"FaviconFileContent":""}

Looks to be link to YouTube

Just found some good info on situation. seems they may be putting favs in database.  and seems you can change something in registry to put them either in database or back in favorites folder like original.

Lots of detail here where he explains what going on it seems - read this first

http://superuser.com/questions/1002351/add-bookmarks-to-microsoft-edge-manually

He says you can reset the D word value to tell it where to use. Either a 1 or a 0

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==

The .bat files below will also change the DWORD value in the registry key below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\MicrosoftEdge\Main

FavoritesESEEnabled DWORD

0 = Favorites folder 1 = ESE database file

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Then the guy goes on to provide a bat file to do such.

think Ill give this to the MS tech if they call back.

Well we have a Edge Favorite management tool now. Written by outside guy but seems to work ok.  Here is article about it and where you can download.  Just installed it, seems to work.
