Apple Lossless (*.m4a) in WMP12

Hi, There.

I recently installed Windows 7 Pro on my Mac. Now, when I already have many albums imported by the iTunes from CDs on neutral HDD volume, I want to import it into WMP library, but it looks like it's impossible on native codecs, though system recognized songs and even put art on them.

So the question is what codec do I need to install in order to play and import Apple Lossless (*.m4a) in WMP12.

Note: I do not really want to install a bunch od K-Lites and stuff like that. I'm interested in answer from people solved issue maybe by installing QUickTime, ffdshow or something...

To allow WMP 12 to play lossless M4A files, you need to install the DC-Bass Source Filter.

However, lossless M4A files will get added to the Other media section of the library, instead of to Music. The only known workaround so far is to change the extension of the files to .mp4. More about that in the following thread:

Hi,

·        Does the other file formats appear fine in the library?

Method 1:

I would suggest you to click on the Microsoft link provided below regarding Codec’s and check if it helps.

Method 2:

M4A files are similar to .MP4 video files, but do not contain a video track. MPEG-4 audio files that include copyright protection, such as those sold through the iTunes Store, typically have an .M4P extension. For more information, visit the following Apple support Web site:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3202

Method 3:

By just renaming the files from .m4a to .MP4 Windows Media player 12 recognizes them and they appear in the library. Click on the link provided below.

Hope this helps.
