Thank you.
Just checked the marketplace and I see a QR Reader application there. I haven't used it so I don't know how well it works.
Thanks.
Using Marketplace Search on my phone, Search for "QR Code" or "Bar Code" and all you get audio albums.
QR Reader does the trick though.
Thanks
I cannot get the QR code reader to work and from the submitted reviews neither can anyone else. I get an "unable to retrieve the data" error after snapping a picture of the code. Did you have any luck?
I am running a Samsung Focus, but I guess that doesn't really matter.
I'm playing with one called PhraseMeme (http://www.phrasememe.com/Scanner/). One trick to that one seems to be to set the "Type" field *before* trying to scan. It doesn't auto-detect the type like normal barcode readers. But once I persuaded it to scan the barcode properly, it seems to work.
However, indications are that the QR decoding is still a little quirky. I don't actually have any live specimens to test, so I can't comment on that part.
It has a free trial (nagware basically), which is great. I absolutely positively *refuse* to purchase anything from Marketplace unless it either has a free trial, or there's a mechanism to demand refunds. App-writers, take note!
Brad.
I agree with you on that point! I don't understand these developers who make their software buy only...I just pass them by and move on to the next. So far I have yet to see any really steller applications that worked great right off the bat and I am unimpressed with most of the applications I see in the marketplace despite their cheap price. I have not heard of most of these windows phone developers and I'm not willing to take a chance on potentially poorly written applications. I'm just hoping some of the really fine developers who created some great windows mobile applications over the years will decide to start porting and developing software for windows phone. It has a free trial (nagware basically), which is great. I wrote the PhraseMeme Scanner application that Brad mentioned, and am glad to hear it worked for him. The current APIs only allow developers to take pictures with the camera and do not provide access to the raw video stream, so as of right now real time scanning cannot be implemented. I hope that the nagware trial is enough to let users evaluate the software, and if they like it I hope they buy it so I can keep working on it and make it better.
As for scanning results, I got it working well enough on my HTC Surround to release the first version, but I plan on testing with other phones and hopefully improving the scanning results in future versions. It is based on the same ZXing library that most of the Android Scanners are based on (see http://j.mp/WP7ZXingPort ) For now, if you have issues scanning or have feature suggestions you can send them to @PhraseMeme on twitter or email Support at PhraseMeme dot com. You can even save images that you think should be able to be recognized and attach them to the email so I have more examples for testing. I hope to make this an easier process in the next release as well as add more features like custom Send To URLs and Datamatrix support.
