Answer

In order to change the Windows Live ID used to access features like Marketplace, Xbox LIVE and Zune Pass from your Windows® Phone 7, you’ll need to reset your phone.

However, other email accounts, including additional Windows Live accounts, can be removed without resetting your phone.

WARNING: Resetting your phone will erase all your personal content, including apps that you purchased and downloaded, and will restore the factory settings.  You may not be able to transfer purchased content to a different Windows Live ID.

If you are sure you need to change the Windows Live ID for your phone, go to Settings then to About and tap reset your phone.

Thanks

Bruno

i had this problem and it's a bit ridiculous the lengths you have to go to do this. This only applies to the xbox live id by the way.

- create a new windows live account (email) - this will just become a dummy to pass off the id you don't want.

- move over the id you no longer want via your xbox to the new account you've just created.

- move the gamer id you do want to the address signed in on the phone and it should now be the id you want. it did take a while for mine to update.

i hope this helps!

Windows Live ID supports changing the email address alias associated with the Live ID account, and does this by using a unique numeric ID as the permanent ID for the account. Whatever the merits of making a Windows Live ID change on the phone only possible with a factory reset, the behavior I would expect is for the Windows Phone to be associated with the permanent account number, not the changeable email address alias. This does not seem to be the case. I changed my email address alias from my Windows Live account, and the phone is still trying to sync with Live using the old alias. At the very least, there should be a warning on the Live ID site that changing the elias would lead to the need for a phone reset.

No doubt, I did the same thing, and now I'm stuck.  I can't change my email address back to what my WP7 Windows Live ID is looking for either.  This is really stupid...

I totally agree. Wghy they did not use the Live ID and opted to use the email address instead, boggles the mind. Of course I am having the same problem. I changed my windows live ID from an email account by an other provider to a new hotmail account, so as to distinguish the emails received on my phone 7. To add insult to injury, I can no longer change the windows live id email address.

Same here. Changed my Live ID email and I am stuck. The phone still tries to access the account with the old email and no way to get out of it. I cannot download new apps, poeple's updates do not work, etc. I love the phone and hope Microsoft will come up with some solution for this. For now, I think I have no choice and need to reset the phone. I am not happy about that.

Count me in as having done the same thing. Wouldn't be a problem if I could sync the phone without the connector!

Seems rather short-sighted. Can't download apps or anything. Wondering about the update....

After changing the Live ID email, resetting the phone, and then signing on to Windows Live on the phone with the new Live ID email, will the marketplace still know who I am and what purchases I've made?

Basically, can apps previously purchased be downloaded again without getting charged a second time?

Hi,

Would this data only go from the phone or would it also vanish from the Zune software. So if I reset the phone and all my contacts etc are backed up on Zune then can I sync the data back on the phone when I change the live ID.
