Question

gmail contacts will not sync error code 80070057 on htc mozart

Applies To:
I have an htc mozart with wp7.5 mango.  All worked for first couple of days but now it will not sync contacts with gmail.  It sometimes fails to sync the mail too.  The windowsphone support page has a "Windows phone support tool"  link but when I click it sends me to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2530409 which, for me, is a dead page.

The Gmail export includes a lot of fields.  In my case the Notes field caused the issue but it maybe one of the other rarely used fields that maybe causing problems too.  If you are running out of options I would suggest trying to clean the Gmail export by importing it and exporting it again through other contacts programs such as Outlook and Windows Live.

I had this problem, I had to delete my gmail account and re add it, which I did today and found that it works perfectly since

Same problem here. Since I updated my Samsung Omnia 7 to Mango, i can't sync my Google contacts no more, which is REALLY annoying : 80070057 error.

I contacted MS on Twitter, and have even written a blog post about that issue...

Hi Mike,

I removed the Notes column.

It would help if we could see the logs created when logging is turned on.  Is there a way to do that?

Hey Martyn, thanks for the reply. I tried several combinations of using the "Notes" field + other custom fields; however, I could not get this sync error to repro. If you find a particular set of info that does repro, can you obfuscate the data and send me what fields to add and with what values?

As for email logs, these are not accessible from the device, unfortunately.

I get the exact same error message 80070057

Gmail contacts are no longer syncing after the Mango update.

I tried everything I can think of; rechecked every contact I have, made sure everthing was in English (!), removed all my contacts except one simple contact, removed ALL my contacts, removed and re-added my Gmail account, created another simple Gmail account and added with the "Other" feature someone was suggesting, reset my phone... No luck.

 

Now I regret I ate the Mango.

Have you confirmed contact syncing is really your issue? On your Google account, you can deselect objects to sync, including contacts. If you deselect contacts, do you see an error message or not? If you only have one contact and this is still failing, I'm not convinced it would be your contacts causing the issue...

yes sir, of course I have tried your suggestion.

If Ideselect the Contacts, email comes thru fine. Only when contacts option is selected then error 80070057 occurs.

I tried all possibilities so far with no success. I even tried syncing with a new account with no messages and no contacts. Once the Contacts option is selected before Google sync, the error appears. And the account link shows Attention Needed.This was working fine before the Mango update.

I don't believe I am alone in this. I see many people are complaining about the same problem.
