I have a new ATT LG Quantum Windows Seven phone and trying to sync with my 64 bit Windows 7 pc and the phone is recognized as a general purpose USB storage device but not as a windows phone. Because of this I can't set up a sync partnership. The drivers for the phone device on the pc are up to date and the phone is getting power over the usb connection. I don't have bluetooth or infrared on the computer.
How do I get my PC to recognize my device?
Windows Phone 101 - Windows Phone isn't Winodws Mobile. It doesn't sync the same way that Windows Mobile does. The Windows Mobile Device Center isn't used for Windows Phone syncing. You need to first install the Zune software from Zune.Net before connecting the phone. If you have connected the phone before installing the Zune software the device may be registered as an unrecognized device.
Once you do get the driver problem resolved you'll find that with Zune you can sync media with the phone (pictures, video, music). Your contact data will be synced with a cloud account. This could be a windows live account (@hotmail.com or @live.com address), a Gmail account, or an Exchange account.
After you install Zune if the computer doesn't automatically recognize the phone then you will need to remove it's "unrecognized device" registration. To do this click on the Windows button and type "Device Manager" and press Enter. See if you can find your phone in the device manager with a yellow exclamation mark. When you find it double-click on it and click on "Update Driver" in the window that opens up. This should cause it to try to re-register the phone with the appropriate driver.
Got the phone recognized by Zune after fixing driver problems. Now I am trying to synchronize using Windows live after installing Hotmail connector. If I manually copy mail, contact, or calendar it will show up on phone. Now I want to find out how to get it to do that automatically. It looks like the only way is to stop using the default Outlook folders and only use the Live folders. Is this correct?

Thanks for pointing it out. I would never have figured out that WMDC didn't support a Windows phone. Not exactly intuitive. Real issue is that keeping my Windows Phone and my Windows computer running Windows Outlook synchronized is now more difficult than using an Android phone with Google mail, calendar, and contacts with my Windows computer running Outlook.
Thanks,
Gary
Yes,
I am using the cable from the manufacturer.
Thanks,
Gary
It actually isn't. Google supports Exchange, and both Windows Phone and Outlook support Exchange natively. If you have them both setup to sync in exchange mode then any time you make a change to your contact or calendar information the other is automatically updated to keep in sync. I've got my phone setup this way and I've got Outlook syncing to hotmail and gmail as exchange accounts. So everything just works with no extra effort from me beyond the initial setup.Real issue is that keeping my Windows Phone and my Windows computer running Windows Outlook synchronized is now more difficult than using an Android phone with Google mail, calendar, and contacts with my Windows computer running Outlook.
