Hi,
So, I finally see we got an update today for the Windows Phone 7, so I dutifully upgrade my phone. It fails on on Step 6 of 10 with Error code 80180080 We couldn't update your phone because your operating system might be corrupt. Then when I reboot it, I'm prompted to reconnect the phone and I get error C101002E An error prevented the restoration of your phone to its previous version.
This is an unmodified Samsung Focus with Rogers Canada, no mSD card installed. Any ideas? Besides buy an iPhone.
Error 80180080 can be fixed by using the Windows Phone Support Tool. More info on using this tool can be found here ->

Hello,
If removing and replacing the battery and performing a “hard reset” fail to bring your phone to its pre-update state, you should contact your mobile operator or device manufacturer regarding your options for repairing your device.

When I connected my Omnia 7 to Zune today, I was notified of an update. Zune updated itself and quit. I restarted Zune and it informed me there was an update for my phone. I clicked update now and it got to step 6/10 rebooting phone. The phone evenually rebooted and Zune reported the following:
RESTORATION ERROR
[sigh] Similar story for me. Samsung Focus, no microSD card on Rogers Canada. Zune first updated itself and closed. I then relaunched Zune selected the phone update and it got to step 6 of 10, "rebooting phone".
I can see that the phone has rebooted, and Zune has switched to display "step 1 of 2 - rebooting your phone" (not sure what happened to step 6 of 10), and it has been there without change for about an hour. I have not disconnected the phone just yet, but it appears to be usable.
I'll leave it longer, but not sure if anything more is happening. At least it's not bricked as per reply above.
Interesting pattern so far:
1. Phone indicates update.
2. Connect to computer, launch Zune.
3. Zune updates, closes.
4. Launch Zune, initiate phone update.
5. Completes steps 1-5 (of 10), on step 6 indicates rebooting. Eventually a graphical "don't discconnect the phone" image appears on the phone.
6. Phone reboots, but still indicates rebooting, this time (step 1 of 2). No activity after 1 hour.
7. Click cancel - Zune indicates "no device connected" even though I only clicked cancel - phone still physically connected via USB.
8. Zune indicates that I must "complete update steps on my phone". No steps indicated on phone.
9. Disconnect and reconnect USB cable - phone now detected, and update offered.
10. Quickly jumps to step 6, rebooting. Graphical "don't disconect" image appears.
11. Step 7 backup begins...
12. Update error: 801812DD.
I'm running Win7 Ultimate, 64-bit.

Make sure that you are using the USB cable which was included with your phone. Reconnect your phone to another USB port on the back of your computer. Do not use a USB hub. |
Same problem here. Unmodified Samsung Focus on AT&T USA, no muSD card installed. Getting the same error combinations. Using the Samsung-provided muUSB cable. Using Win7 64-bit.
[Edit/follow-up] Tried hard reset with phone to no avail. Returned it to AT&T store for exchange. The original (now-bricked) phone had displayed some odd behavior in the past that I had just attributed to WP7 being an early release OS, but the new phone runs MUCH more smoothly -- Apps install about 2-3x faster, Wifi locks MUCH more easily, even the apps load much faster. I suspect the original phone had corrupted memory that was exposed during the upgrade.
Hello all,
Please follow these steps should your update fail. First of all, try to power cycle your device. If backup process is in apparently prolonged state (exceeding the general 30-40 min) with no movement of progress (including stuck at 99/100%) then try the following:
1. Disconnect the device from the PC
2. Pull the battery
3. Replace battery and power on
4. Device should reboot into the OS kernel
We would recommend at this time, not to retry the update, as subsequent attempts will fail similarly. While we continue to investigate the issue, we would ask that you not attempt the update until your device alerts you of another update opportunity, in approximately 3 days’ time.
Please when posting, remember to also write down the mobile model, operator, operating system of your computer and Zune software version. Thanks for posting!
Hi Patrizia,
This is a different issue. These steps do not work for those with "RESTORATION ERROR - Error Code C101002E". After removing the battery and rebooting, the "Connect to PC" image is displayed. On connection, Zune displays Error Code C101002E once more.
When attempting a hard reset using Camera, Vol Down and Power buttons, the reset menu is displayed (exclamation in a triangle with Reset and Cancel options), but Reset cannot be selected, as the phone reboots as soon as you let go of the Camera and Vol Down buttons.
Please read through the threads, there is plenty of detail about this, including confirmation that pulling the battery does not help.
Also, see here:

Patrizia,
I can confirm, as others have done that this does not work.
