how to change the install location when install software from marketplace?

Answer
I found a work around to this issue.  I have installed Pocket Mechanic, which is a program you you would have to purchase.  It has many uses though.  Can scan and repair memory card, and can also defrag your memory card.  Other use that I have used to resolve the Marketplace issue, is that you can move applications with Pocket Mechanic.  I get the app through the Marketplace and use Pocket Mechanic to move the app to my memory card.  Pocket Mechanic updates all registry entires and shortcuts.  Marketplace still sees that app so you can still manage with Marketplace after the move.

Answer

It became an option at least a month ago. If you open the Marketplace client and go into settings you can change the default install location. If you don't have this option then you need the updated client. Get it by navigating to  http://mp.windowsphone.com on your phone.

It takes all the running you can do to stay in one place.If you want to get somewhere else,you must try to run at least twice as fast as that.

Currently, there is no means to manually specify an alternative install location for apps. The exception being if there is insufficient space available for installation. When this occurs, the client will notify you that you do not have sufficient memory to store the new application on your device and will present the option to either delete an existing app or to store the app in an alternate location such as a storage card.

But this is unusable. If my phone storage is so much filled that i can't install further applications i cannot use my phone anyway! is there planned an update for this? i would understand this for protected paid applications but not for freeware!

I agree, this is unusable.   Filling up the device with applications will simply create undesired effects such as not being able to download email attachments to local storage once it is filled up.

I just created an account here for this sole reason..  How the H%#l can they release this service and not give an option on where to install the apps?  Tried installing the facebook application, not a chance since it has space to download it, but not install it.

Useless.. im so disappointed, was looking forward to starting buying apps as soon as the 200 promised ones where released.. :(

My integrated memory card has loads of space, but that doesnt help me..

I could not agree more...this is unacceptable!  Almost all phones come with a memory card slot and very little onboard memory.  To not be able to pick the save location is a gamestopper for MarketPlace.  Ballmer already admitted that they screwed up WinMo so far.  They were supposed to give us WinMo 7 and instead have given us this shoddy stopgap called 6.5.

In the interim, Microsoft should design this so that the downloaded apps are automatically saved to the Storage Card(if present) or the built-in storage.  Please address this major issue immediately.

I agree. It is crazy not to have the option to store to the storage card.

This is an absolute must for the Windows Marketplace to be meaningful!

Wow. I actually had high hopes for this. I thought Microsoft had changed mainly from the perspective of Windows 7 that I've tested for 6 months. No one  know of, I work in IT where almost everyone I know uses Windows mobile, NO ONE I know is going to install apps only to their phone memory when it is so limited. I don't care if that is what Android makes you do. It is the number one gripe I hear of about that, where people want to be able to install apps to their storage card. This is just so disappointing.

Most people never install to device memory. Microsoft and everyone else know where that will get you. This is unbelievable, what a bummer. One step forward, two steps back.

I don't know that the world is going to end. Maybe you guys should request this change rather than throwing your hands up and crying foul.

I was hoping for this as well. In fact, It dissapointing that it isn't there already. I'm confident they will change that though. And then you could uninstall you apps and reinstall to your card I'm sure...
