There are many users who are suddenly facing error 0x800488EB when trying to synchronize an HTTP account (i.e. one with an inbox at
http://mail.live.com). It might be helpful for those trying to find out what's wrong to have some information about the accounts that are failing to synchronize.

Here are some tips for finding the data to enter:
1. How to find out the version of Windows
that you are using
2. & 3. Which version?
5. Visit http://mail.live.com and sign in with the failing account. The server cluster is given as the first part of the URL in the browser address bar: http://dub129.mail.live.com/Default.aspx
Type any additional comments in the white field below the blue box, then click
Submit.
Thanks to everyone who filled in forms. This made it possible quickly to rule out a number of contributory factors. The MS engineers are working to find a solution which will be put in place as soon as possible. In the meantime, I'll post a couple of workarounds.
