Hi,

To help us investigate this issue, please provide the following information:

- What steps did you take that led to this error condition?
- What is the exact error message or error code that you received?
- To investigate if this is account related issue:
  • Does the issue happen when other Windows Live Hotmail accounts are accessed on the same computer?
- To investigate if this is a system issue:
  • Does the issue occur when using another computer?
- Have you tried reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows Live Mail? It's possible that your client is corrupted.
- Does the issue occur when accessing your calendar through web browser?

Thanks!

Went into WLM to get my mail and look at my mail and calendar, as usual. Error message came up:There was an error when attempting to connect to the Windows Live Calendar service. If the error persists, check to see if there's an upgrade of Windows Live Mail available or contact a service representative.

Yes, this problem occurs with all windows live hotmail accounts and on both computers.

I can access my calendar through the web browser just fine.

I tried running the repair option from Control Panel: Programs and Features. Didn't fix the problem.

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for posting your concern on Microsoft Community Forum. I understand that you're having issues on opening your calendar within Windows Live Mail making you unable to sign in. I will be assisting you on your inquiry.

It is possible that the issue is caused by a corrupted data within your Windows Live Mail. For this issue, please try to repair your Live Mail by following the steps below:

For Windows 8:

1. Click the Windows button on your keyboard.

2. Type Control Panel and hit Enter.

3. Click Programs.

4. Click Programs and Features.

5. Search for Windows Essentials 2012 on the list and then select it.

6. Click Uninstall/Change.

7. Click Repair all Windows Essentials programs.

For Windows Vista/7:

1. Click the Start menu.

2. Click Control Panel.

3. Click Programs.

4. Click Programs and Features.

5. Search for Windows Essentials 2012 on the list and then select it.

6. Click Uninstall/Change.

7. Click Repair all Windows Essentials programs.

For Windows XP:

1. Click the Start menu.

2. Click Control Panel.

3. Click Add or Remove Programs.

4. Search for Windows Live Essentials on the list and then select it.

6. Click Change/Remove.

7. Click Repair, and then click Continue.

In addition, please try to reconfigure your account. This will refresh Windows Live Mail and might also fix the issue. To do this, kindly follow the steps within this link.

In case the issue persists, please provide us more information by answering the questions below:

  • Can you view your calendar when you log in to Hotmail/Outlook web?
  • When did the issue start?
  • Have you made recent changes on your computer/Windows Live Mail program that might have caused the issue?

We're looking forward to your response.

Thank you.

I have only started experiencing this problem during the past week or so. I followed all the suggested steps without it making any difference. It seems as though an update to Live Essentials produces this problem as it also happened a few months ago. I tried another software program and by coincidence when I returned to WLM Calendar it was working fine.

The repair instructions don't work.  I started having this problem within the past couple of weeks and did not make any changes to my computer prior.

Sad to say I am fed up with Microsoft making changes that adversely affect programs that have been running well.  The problems with syncing Calendar while Contacts works ok is just one example. Another is Microsoft Money that, though now unsupported, still works well except with the new WIndows 10.

It is now my policy to use any programs other than Microsoft whenever possible. Thankfully there are quite a few much better alternatives.
