XP replacement

To All,

I have supported Microsoft from the beginning and defended my loyalty when challenged my Apple users. I always trust that the corporate leaders would do the right thing. Now here I sit with XP Pro with no place to go and my Apple friends our smiling now!

So my question is why has Microsoft taken the path of turning their back on a loyal customer base world wide? No options or incentives offered other than paying full retail for a new operating. I believe the fallout will exceeded the corporate leaders expectations.  I wonder how many will migrate to Apple when the dust settles?

Unless Microsoft provides some incentive other than just scaring me into 8.1,  I may jump ship.

Disappointed Customer,

Mike

Windows XP is just too Old and Obsolete. Time to Update to a newer OS. It's 2014 not 2003.

Apple does the same thing  .

My Win 3.1 , 95 , 98se pc`s still work . All they need is a little de-dusting

and a new motherboard coin battery every few years  .

My cell phone is far more faster and useable than all of them combined .

But then all the ships are in the same ocean doing the same .

My old Lisa and see-thru  Mac are sitting on the same shelf .

Microsoft hasn't "turned their back" on users, but they can't support XP forever. It's 13 years old, and most OSs aren't supported anywhere near that long. 13 years is an unprecedented length of time for an operating system, or any piece of technology to be supported.

Apple certainly doesn't support their older stuff for that length of time, so if you're planning to jump ship, take that into consideration. You'll still be facing the same situation. If you're going to jump ship, do it because you prefer Apple products.

Unfortunately, all technology ends up obsolete at some point. XP was actually supported well past that point - current computers won't run it, and many devices no longer include drivers for XP.

As for incentives - Microsoft is actually offering discounts on new systems for XP users and help migrating to those systems. Go check out the Microsoft store. The deal is almost enough to make me wish I had an XP system to trade in!

What do you mean "turned their back" on users?  Windows 8 is still the same as XP.  Can you even tell the difference here below?

Same desktop, same folders, same taskbar, same everything.  Nothing was taken away in Windows 8.  Anyone who says so is just trying to scare you.

Why can't they support XP. It's the second most used OS. And Bill Gates is the richest man in the world. And that discount is not worth giving up Windows XP.

Ha. I can tell the difference. XP looks great. Windows 8 is a Apple wannabe.

Really?  Why do you think that based on the two identical desktops with only a different colored wallpaper?

I can tell the difference, too. The Windows 8 desktop is the more streamlined, less gaudy, more professional looking one. Well, apart from the wallpaper, that is.

It's awesome having a desktop that doesn't look like it was made by fisher price doesn't it?  Windows 7 is the best desktop environment I've ever used, and Windows 8 still has it.  Plus 8 has a much better Explorer.
