Method 1:
Step 1:
Check the issue in Safe mode

If the issue not persists in safe mode then perform step 2.
Step 2: Perform clean boot.

Method 2: Run System File Checker.
You need to have the Windows XP CD to perform System File Checker (SFC) scan on your computer.
SFC scans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer.

Method 3: Perform Chkdsk

Important:
While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost
