'Search Enhancement Pack', folder pops up on starting my computer.

For some time now whenever my computer starts up a window appears that contains a folder called 'Microsoft', which in turn contains a folder called 'Search Enhancement Pack', both folders dated 25/12/2010. The folders are in My Computer/HP_Pavilion C:/Program Files. I am running Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. I assume this folder has come onto my computer in a Windows Automatic Update download as I did not knowingly download it myself. How can I stop this happening, please? I have asked this question on Microsoft Answers, who have tried to help but run out of suggestions and have said that I should post my question here. Sadly Windows Live Solutions Centre cannot help me and have referred me here. Help please.

Hello Debleena S,

Thank you for your advice.

I had not made any software or hardware changes prior to this issue, only anything that may have come in the Microsoft Windows automatic updates.

I followed all of your instructions but, sadly, the issue still persisted afterwards.

In desperation I decided to take the risk of trying to delete all the files contained in the problem folders. In the msconfig window services tab I found a service called SeaPort. I recognized this name from one of the files I had seen when I searched through all of the Microsoft/Search Enhancement Pack folders individually. I turned off this service and restarted the computer. I tried to delete the Microsoft/Search Enhancement Pack folders but my computer would not allow this. I then individually deleted all of the files and folders inside the Microsoft/Search Enhancement Pack folders and finally deleted the two folders themselves. I then returned to msconfig and clicked Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services and then OK. This seems to have resolved the issue and I have not noticed any adverse effects of my actions on my computer. So I think the issue is now closed. Thanks to everyone who has tried to assist me with this issue.

Regards

Lynn Hayter
