Receiving message "Acquiring Network Address" when I try to connect to my network but never connects to the internet.

Acer Aspire 4736 XP Acquiring Internet Connection problem

I have an Acer Aspire 4736 Laptop and it has not been able to connect to the internet we have at home for almost 2 days now. I have Windows XP 32-bit. It displays "Acquiring Network Address" but never connects to the internet. It has never experienced this kind of problem before. I asked the Internet provider tech support and my other computer was able to connect to the internet. Only my Acer Aspire 4736 cannot connect to the internet. I wanted to have my acer keep going good so I can give it to my mom.

Hi Janice K_24,

·         Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

Follow these methods.

Method 1: Follow the steps:

a)    Unplug the cable/DSL modem.

b)    Unplug the wireless router.

c)    Wait 60 seconds and then plug in the modem.

d)    When the modem is completely online, plug in the wireless router.

e)    On the computer, open a command prompt.

f)     Once you have a command prompt, first type “ipconfig /flushdns”.

g)    Next, type “ipconfig /release”.

h)    Then, type “ipconfig /renew”.

Method 2: Disable the security software temporarily.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 3: Follow the steps from the article to reset the internet protocol.
