Error 0x800700DF: The file size exceeds the limit allowed and cannot be saved

I am trying to download a file from an online backup drive and I receive the following error message: Error 0x800700DF: The file size exceeds the limit allowed and cannot be saved.

I have been able to download files previously, using Windows XP and have not had such an error.  I also can't upload large files to this drive when I used to do it before on XP.  These files that are my Idrive were put there my me on XP, not Windows 7.

Any ideas?

Answer

FileSizeLimitInBytes is set to 5000000 which limits your download so just set it to maximum! (this is client side btw on windows 7)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

  1. Right click on the FileSizeLimitInBytes and click Modify
  2. Click on Decimal
  3. In the Value data box, type 4294967295, and then click OK. Note this sets the maximum you can download from the Webdav to 4 gig at one time, I haven’t figured out how to make it unlimited so if you want to download more you need to split it up.

hopefully this helps for you guys!

Here, Apache is running WebDAV and the client is Windows 7 with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WebClient\Parameters->BasicAuthLevel = 2.

This fixed our "problem with Sharepoint 2007".  We changed the file size limit in SharePoint, but users were still experiencing problems when trying to download a copy or copy/pasting from windows explorer view with any file over 50MB.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900900/en-us

This also worked with Windows 7 - 64 bit

There gotta be a way to remove this limitation altogether. On http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900900 it says:

This security change makes sure that an unauthorized server cannot force a client computer into a denial of service attack.

Anyone knows if there is a way to make the server authorized so this can be avoided?
