Taskbar Icons not loading after boot up...

I ahve to reboot three or four times for the right icons to show up in my desktop.  I have installed a new hard drive on my PC and it says I have SP3 but when I look in theadd remove list in the control panel, XP SP3 shows no file size listed, like the other items.   I'm not sure it is actually in my PC.   When I installed it on my old hard drive it resolved this issue.  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Answer

Hi,

Windows XP service pack 3 will not show any file size in Add and remove programs.

Method 1:

It might be that the icon Cache is corrupted. I would suggest you to rebuilt the icon cache and check whether the issue is resolved.

a.       Close and save anything that you are working on. This command will kill explorer and restart the computer when completed.

b.      Open the Start Menu, and type cmd in the search box and press enter.

c.       In the command prompt, Copy and Paste each command line below and press enter after each command.

taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F

CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local

DEL IconCache.db /a

shutdown /r

d.      The IconCache.db file has now been rebuilt.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to create a new user account and check.
