How do I change the font color of desktop icons?

More specifically, the color behind the text of the icons.

( a picture of my desktop for clarity )

When I switch out my desktop background from the default to my own picture, the text below the icons no longer have transparent backgrounds, but is a dark grey color.

How do I get this to be transparent?
Thank you.
Answer
Answer

If it was transparent before, this is the most likely cause of the issue:

  • The transparency is disabled if the image is a specific type of image (for example, if it is a PNG image file instead of a bitmap).  Here's the easiest way to change it:

1 - Open the image file using Paint.  Choose File > Save As.
2 - Before saving, change the file type to JPG or JPEG Image.
3 - Right-click this newly saved file, and "Set as Background"

If this doesn't work, another thing to try is:

  • Right-click "My Computer" and choose Properties.
  • On the Advanced tab, click the first Settings button (for Performance).
  • In the list, make sure this is ON:  "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" (it's the 2nd to last option).
