Receiving error message: The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect, when trying to open CamStudio 2.6b.

Original title: HELP - The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

I have installed a video maker called 'CamStudio 2.6b'. When i try to open it, it says: "The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect". PLEASE HELP!?!

The machine is missing the correct C++ runtime components for your type of system. (x86 or x64).

You can uninstall any existing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package and install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package and check if it helps.

 

Step 1: To uninstall the package:

a. Open Programs and Features.

b. From the list, find Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package and click on it.

c. Click Uninstall at the top of the list.

 

Step 2: Download and install the latest package and see if it helps.

Before downloading, you may want to check Is my PC running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?

For 32 bit: Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)

For 64 bit: Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64)

I have done exactly what you said (my PC (VISTA) is running on 32-bits). I have also unintalled and reinstalled cam studio, but it comes up with the same message:

Unable to execute file:
C:\Program Files\CamStudio 2.6b\Recorder.exe

CreateProcess failed; code 14001.
The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.

Does this happen only when you try with Camstudio or with any other programs?

 

It seems that the CamStudio is not fully compatible with Windows Vista.

For further information, you may refer the following article.

Windows Vista Compatibility

 

However you may try re-downloading the setup file again and check if it helps.

 

You may also try running it in Windows XP compatibility mode and check.

Make older programs run in this version of Windows

If this happens only with CamStudio, then you may also get in touch with CamStudio support for further assistance.

Your Problem is:
camstudio the application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. please see the application event log ir use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Solution:
For CamStudio 2.6b r294; 
you will be needed Microsoft C++ Runtime Libraries 2008 which will be here  vcredist_x86

For CamStudio 2.6c ; 
you will be needed Microsoft C++ Runtime Libraries 2008 which will be here  vcredist_x86

Here is some tips to improve for window 8 pro*64/86 bits

 1.Install  C++  from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328

2.then install camstudio 2.7

3.If still there would be compression failure, then change the compression setting to Microsoft video-1 format

that works superb
