Hi  JenPea78 ,

As I find you need to install the security update’ Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update’ before installing iTunes on your computer.

Let’s follow these steps before you proceed with the installation of ITunes.

1. Download and install:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en#filelist

2. Also, make sure that you have iTunes installer installed on your computer or else download and install it.

3. Uninstall all iTunes software from Program and features.

a)Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and  Features.

b)Select  the program, and then click Uninstall.

Uninstall or change a program

Also, download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to remove all iTunes software:

Description of the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility

Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Cleanup"). In the list of programs that appear in Cleanup, select any iTunes entries, and click remove. Quit out of Cleanup.

4.Reinstall all  iTunes software and check if it works.

Thank you for replying.

Let’s browse to the location c:\windows\winsxs folder and rename the folder winsxs to winsxs.old.

Then try installing the security update and check if it helps.

There will be an additiona issue updating this SP1... lets asume (just tested on a Win6 64 bit)

1) Application a or any IT just install this VC 2005 SP1 (5592)

2) Later on you have to install an application who itself distributes the base VC 2005 (4053) who references with a manifest to assemblyIdentity type="win32" name="Microsoft.VC80.CRT" version="8.0.50727.4053"

The problems:

1) applcation as mentioned in 2) will use the "8.0.50727.4053" dll's (checked with Process Explorer)... while in the normal upgrade path, first "8.0.50727.4053" the let's due the windows update will run the new VC Sp1 dll's!!!

2) the installed application will not use VC 2005 SP1 (5592)...

2) the windows updater will not see that VC 2005 SP1 (5592) has to be re-run while it's already installed

in other words this KB'2 should go into a revision...

Did you also try this fix, it has worked for many Itunes install problems?

Error 1719 Windows Installer Service Could Not be Accessed, when installing applications.
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/misc-registry-fixes-for-windows-7-xp-vista/

I don't know whether changing the name of the winsxs is a good idea or not.  If you are determined to try that then maybe you can do it from Safe Mode, or from outside of the Windows environment via a recovery DVD or similar.  For details type - Create a system repair disc  - in the Start Menu/ Help and Support program.

Advanced startup options (including safe mode)

Perhaps your problem will only be resolved by saving all your valuable data and then reinstalling Windows to fix up the corruption of your operating system?
