Vista Home Premium Installation Error: ox80070017

I cannot install the Home Premium version of Windows Vista. I have tried the steps outlined in KB956704, but this has not resolved the issue. I am attempting to upgrade to Vista Home Premium from Windows XP Professional SP3.

Is there any idea of what could be going wrong?

Hi OnceForever,

Boot to the Vista Disk. Select custom, and do a clean install from there. Make sure you have all your data backed up and software ready to reinstall as this will wipe your PC.

Thanks as well. I've now reformatted the disc and install a fresh copy of Windows XP Home Edition - tried to do the upgrade from there and the clean install - same issue occured.

Any thoughts?

You have still not stated what type of Vista Licence that you have: Upgrade or Full Licence.

You have an incorrect path to do an upgrade from XP Pro > Vista Home Premium.

And, legally, you can not do a Custom clean install with an Upgrade Licence.

I am sorry, but XP Pro to Vista Home Premium is not an upgrade path.

XP Pro to Vista Home Premium has to be done with a clean install, using a full Vista Home Premium Disk/Licence.
